Thanks GunnyAkimbo. I am now downloadin the iso of 15002 for a clean install.
If it goes wrong, will I be able to roll back to my 14986 or the clean install deletes old versions? I ask this because I don't have a 14986 iso, and have only one notebook. If it goes wrong and I cannot roll back...
Both ISOs are currently available for download from MS site. Scroll down and select Other options to get to Insider site.

Having been unable to install 15002 i was happy to see 15007 arrive, but alas still unable to install 15007, after trying to do all google search attempts at a fix, gave up got the sledge hammer out and re-installed 1607, selected to join fast ring and download and install of 15007 was successful!

Sergey Tkachenko posted a link to ISOs for 15007. They are housed on a server in NZ, and the x64 version is 3.98 GB. Takes a while, but works just fine on my Z87 mobo test machine, which otherwise refused to complete the download from WU (frustratingly, that machine hung forever at 100% complete). Mounted the ISO, double-clicked setup, and it did an upgrade install without further hitches...

Ok.... so since finally getting 15007 installed, it was hardly worth the effort, lots of issues, worst one being trackpad stops working and even a usb mouse wont work.

Have to admit when I couldn't get either 15002 or7 to work, tried some linux distros found myself enjoying "Elementary OS Loki"
But can't get Printer/Scanner to work with it, otherwise i might have been tempted to switch and give it a try for a while!!

I see all the responses here indicating the hoops one can jump through to get this installation to work, but I don't buy it. I've never had any issues installing the test builds before, & no changes have been made to my machine since build 14986. With the documented problems with this "15" series of test builds, the problem has to lie with the build itself, not everyone's machines. Whereas I never received an error message before, I am now seeing this:

    Windows 10 Insider Preview 15007 (rs_prerelease) - Error 0x80096004

This happened today after several days of my PC restarting during inactive hours & still showing build 14986. I know these are Insider (beta) builds, but while I expect some issues after installation, I do expect to be able to install the build itself.

15002 did not seem to be "all there", with odd things happening - like it wouldn't work with a USB keyboard that on 14986 and everything before worked fine - I had to use a really old PS/2 type keyboard. Multiple download attempts for 15007 failed, and a couple that succeeded had aborted installs. Eventually I created an UUPtoISO ISO image and clean installed. 15007 then refused to work with the PS/2 Keyboard in favour of the USB one!!

One obvious problem was solved by disconnecting the network for the installation and especially the OOBE part so that a local user is created instead of one with a MSA stupid user name on the user folders. It speeded up installation considerably.

Another thing - I have disabled IPv6 on routers and in Windows, as it seemed to be behind the instability with dropped network connections. Since doing so, all my Windows PCs seem to keep their connections. None of my Android or otherwise anonymous Linux devices have had any network problems ever, just Windows.
