Not usually I'll give you that but it has happened to me. I had to reactivate about 10 Windows virtual machines as the 2TB Seagate drive they were on went titsup. Not funny at all and a lot of work. All that happened was they were moved from one HD to another brand new one. The virtual hardware remained the same except for the real hardware hard drive. So like I said if you do something to a machine there is always a chance it will need reactivation.
Last night my 64 bit Enterprise version 100130 updated to 10162 and lost its activation. No worries I'll just put in the key from the Technet website. Key not valid. Tried everything I knew and nothing. It seems when the latest version is not activated you cannot change wallpaper, theme or do much at all as it tells you to activate to use that function. I was locked out of my Virtual Machine. 3 M$ representatives later after giving them this number and that number they decided the upgrade broke 10 and for me to try again. So I am.
According to Gabe the M$ spokesman it is no longer possible to have W10 Preview without a legitimate qualifing O/S from version 10159 onwards.
Your quote from post 65... "I was thinking about deleting all the installed updates"...later changed in post 68 to uninstalling.
As you cannot have either W7/8 and W10 Preview operating together in the same partition, only as a dual boot, by deleting or uninstalling ALL updates would leave you with a blank partition.
