I have a Image of my 8.1.1 install I made with Macrium. As long as I remember to make backups of of my files I should be able to reinstall Win8.1.1, update my files and be all set. As for Win10 TP expiring, I'm sure the final version will be released first. I also read that MS is going to continue the Insider Program for anyone who wants to continue testing.
Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen anything about the technical previews continuing, just that MS will continue the Insider Program within Windows; nowhere have I seen them implying that the TP program will continue after Win 10's official release. Insider Program does not equal technical previews, as far as I can tell.

I have read that MS is going to use the insider program to allow those who want to continue the ability to test updates before they go to general release. If that isn't a test preview than I don't know what is. I'm doubt they want us to test on our main OS and risk losing every thing. If I have to test on my main OS I'll drop out.

That's what I read too, Winuser.

What they've said is that there will continue to be a fast & slow ring (among possibly others) update paths within Windows 10 and the continuation of the Insider Program (aka the Windows Feedback App will still be present in the main OS). As far as I've seen, there has been no mention of a separate technical preview distinguishable from the main OS.

I really don't care if they continue the TP/Insider Preview or not. If they do I'll continue to participate if not I wont. Now that I thought about It, it does make more sense for MS to allow users to test updates with their daily OS and chance losing everything.

I went back to Windows 8.1.1. The upgrade from 8 to 10 had to many problems. At least now I know my Macrium image works.
