Is your current insider build activated? Do you have an activation key or a Digital License?
a key (in the image above i just copied the first couple rows after that it starts referring to the key )

You bought a copy of Windows 10 from an authorized retailer. Product key
(On a label inside the Windows 10 box. A digital license will be given to your device for Windows 10 based on the valid product key you entered.)"

Did you go to Settings > Updates and Security > Windows Insider program? This is what should happen.

get out of windows insider program-z.png

    Attachment 108998

Once you click Stop Insider builds the next screen will look like this
get out of windows insider program-z1.png

Click 'Need to stop getting insider builds completely
get out of windows insider program-z2.png

Once you click Confirm you will get a screen asking you to restart and you should be finished.

I am afraid other posts are incorrect. You cannot stop build updates unless you are on the official release version, and you have gone past that and next official iso is next March or thereabouts.

Your only options are to stop all updates altogether (not recommended) or reinstall 14393 from scratch.

You could move across to the Slow Ring and you will not be updated at least until next Slow Ring iso comes along. You could try Release Preview Ring but not sure if you can do that.

Incidentally, activation has changed for version 1607 - even if you use product key activation, you also get a digital licence bound to hardware id (in previous versions it was one or the other). The upshot of this is if you reinstall, it activates automatically without nedd for key entry.

    @mixpro

    Just an opinion....

Seems you have a mess and just want to get back to the normal, regular public build....without losing anything.

If you're stuck in some can't-get-there-from-here loop, backup all your data, files, pics, important stuff. To an external drive. You can use Macrium Reflect. Yes, it will backup the OS, but the backup image can be used to cherry-pick and copy back anything you want. And also serves as a safe-guard if the the process goes bad on you.

You seem to have a valid license. Just download the 14393 RTM AU build from this link: Windows 10

Burn the ISO to a DVD or make a thumb drive. Completely format your drive so it's clean. Boot from the DVD or thumb drive and install 14393 clean. Go through all the updates, etc until you are up to 14393.351 - that is the most current (right now...might change this Tuesday 11/08). Make an entire system backup again. (DO NOT blow away the original backup with all your data!)

When the 14393.351 is running smoothly, all by itself (no tweaks), then copy back the data you want. Download any installers you don't have. Install the apps/progs you want or need. Clean it up. Do a backup.

Sounds like a lot of work, but it really is not hard. Just time consuming. From what you've described, starting all over, nice and clean, is your best option. Also will give you a chance to re-evaluate just exactly what you really do want on the system. Maybe get rid of some clutter and PUPs.

There are tutorials all over tenforums and 1000's of members to help.

Good post TC, I have only one thing to add, mixpro should also make sure he gets any needed "special drivers" such as for the keyboard Fn(function) keys, or I also recommend video drivers(in case the ones Microsoft provide are not good enough, rare but happens), If they have Logitech devices get those drivers/software too. You can do it after, but it's just better to do it beforehand in my opinion(I always have copies at hand, in case of corruptions).

    Good points, Cliff.....

If needed, here is the tutorial for backing up existing drivers: Drivers - Backup and Restore in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Agreed TC. Things have changed since 1607, and you can't just opt out of Insider anymore - it won't revert you back to general release builds; you have to reinstall clean.
