Windows 10 Build 10130 Start menu does not work

    Hi there

I tried the lastest preview build only to find that once installed the 'Start Menu' does not work after a restart. (apparently caused by Restore System after a quick search), I did try a few solutions posted on the internet for earlier builds without any luck.

I knew this problem existed in earlier builds, I find it odd that Microsoft would not have sorted this problem out now especially as it was a major selling point.

Can you fill in some more details.. With builds 10130/10134 my start menu works every time I go to use it.. even after restarts. If you add some more information like how installed and are using Wn10 you may get some help.

Hi bunny thanks for the reply

I installed it via the download file from within windows 7 HP x64

I asked it to save all my settings and files and programs, the actual install was the most painless I had ever done it seemed to work well. On the first few restarts it worked fine, then simply stopped. I tried various solutions as listed here

Windows 10 Build 10130 - Start Menu/Task Bar Not Working

It wasnt a clean install of course, but as i understand the roll out you are going to be given this option.

This is what worked for me. Click on the notification icon on the task bar. Click All Settings. Click on personalization. Click on Start. Then try turning option 2 "Store and display recently opened programs in start" off. If it happens again turn the option back on.

This worked flawless for me. I looked at two other forums before finding this solution and none of them suggested it. I did see it suggested somewhere a few hours ago but didn't try to disable it and then enable it again. I'll post it on the other two in case anyone else has this issue.

This is the first I have heard of this solution. Unfortunately for me my Notifications arent working either. Do we have a solution for that as I can't seem to locate one anywhere? Any help would be appreciated. I have installed office 2016 and my e-mail client outlook has crashed and I can't determine if it is an issue with 16 or 13. It won't even load in safe mode thus the reason for the repair. When I try to reinstall it loads the installer for 13. It runs and then terminates unexpectedly. This is the reason for trying to access the start page which isn't working. That is how I ended up here. Any suggestions anyone has I'm all ears. Thanks in advance again.

I was able to get my start menu back with the following steps:

Launch the Registry Editor (hit the Windows key and R, type regedit, and then press Enter) and then navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ ImmersiveShell\Launcher

Click Edit > New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it UseExperience.
Double-click the newly created item and set the value to 0.
Click OK, close the Registry Editor and then restart your computer -- or just restart Explorer. (If you can still right-click on your start button, you can use Task Manager to restart Explorer.)

Source: I reversed the process found in this post about Continuum, the new version of the start menu.

    Hope this helps :)

You don't need to go through the notification's
Windows Key and I will get you into the settings and you can carry on from there as suggested.

    P.S
Unfortunately, in my own case, I found Winuser's trick the hard way. In frustration, and lack of any advice that actually worked, I made a fresh install and slowly went through my normal customisation, checking and rebooting each time. Luckily, the "Start" options were near the beginning of the procedure. I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled over that very simply solution. In my case, I enabled all of those choices, but was then able to eliminate it to the one and only.
I have filed it as a bug in the feedback, which is how I view it!

This is ridiculous that MS can't fix a simple start button that worked in past systems. We should not have to go through all these fixes for a start button. Makes you wonder how really secure we are with this operating system where MS can't even fix a simple start button.
MS, please get it together and fix this ridiculous problem!
