MS says I'm not connected to the internet - I am

    Hi

This morning for some reason (and I can't remember why) I went to Windows 10 Settings and selected Update and Security. Here I saw a message saying: "Your insider preview settings require attention. Go to Windows Insider Programme to fix this issue." This was highlighted in red. I therefore clicked on the required option.

This time I saw another message saying: "Your Microsoft accout requires attention to get Insider Preview builds" and a button saying "Fix me". I therefore clicked on the button. Since I have already received Windows 10 updates this morning you can imagine my surprise when it came back with the message "Your PC isn't connected to the internet. To get started, connect to the internet and try again" (piccy below).

My question therefore is: since I am already connected to the internet how do I sort this one out? Obviously Microsoft are not recognising that I AM connected in this instance so what do I do now? I've just been to my Microsoft account and had no trouble logging on so on the face of it appears to be a problem with Microsoft. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? What would be an appropriate MS forum to approach about this if no one here can help? Any assistance on this would be most appreciated. Thanks.

    So you are seeing this?

Run CMD as admin and copy/paste/enter:

    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f
    reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost" /f

As for the issue with no internet connection:

Disable and then enable network adapter again. If that does not help. Download Enable Network.bat and run it as admin. You might need to disable/enable network adapter again. Now everything should be fine in the world.

    Hi

Thanks for your reply - it certainly helped with the initial message but I'm having problems regarding the second part re the network adapter. I tried disabling then re-enabling the adapter but it didn't help. I have downloaded the bat file and although I entered the command prompt as administrator I can't think how the hell to run the bat file - stupid eh? Can you please run it by me please how I do that as just entering the bat file name (with or without extension) just comes up with an error message that it isn't recognised as an internal command. So just how do I run a bat file using a command prompt?

You can use the method as for the first one, run CMD as admin and copy/paste:

    sc config BFE start= auto
    sc config Dhcp start= auto
    sc config DiagTrack start= auto
    sc config DPS start= auto
    sc config lmhosts start= auto
    sc config MpsSvc start= auto
    sc config netprofm start= auto
    sc config NlaSvc start= auto
    sc config nsi start= auto
    sc config Wcmsvc start= auto
    sc config WinHttpAutoProxySvc start= auto
    sc config Winmgmt start= auto
    sc config NcbService start= demand
    sc config Netman start= demand
    sc config netprofm start= demand
    sc config WinHttpAutoProxySvc start= demand
    sc config WlanSvc start= demand
    sc config WwanSvc start= demand
    net start DPS
    net start DiagTrack
    net start BFE
    net start MpsSvc
    net start nsi
    net start NlaSvc
    net start Dhcp
    net start BITS
    net start wuauserv
    net start WinHttpAutoProxySvc

    Hi

This morning I logged onto Win10 in order to carry out your suggestion above but before I did I thought I'd have another go at seeing what happened just by clicking on Windows Insider Programme. It seems now that MS recognises I'm on the internet and I was able to do everything I needed to once again become a Windows Insider. Mind you, I've only selected the Slow ring - I'll leave the Fast ring to the more adventurous types. Anyway it seems I'm OK again now without having to enter the various commands in the bat file.

Thanks very much indeed for your help.
