Build 10074 - after update Start menu doesn't appear at all

    Hi there

after an Update to 10074 from 10061 the start menu doesn't appear AT all (on a real machine). Totally non functioning --although Right mouse click works. On a VM it appears but as before you can't launch any desktop app from the menu.

Programs already on the taskbar work though.

I think the Clean install is the only sensible point to follow at this time.

Will do some clean installs later --I've got the official ISO from the ms site now (although the ESD==>ISO method is good too).

Otherwise the build seems solid enough.

    Cheers

I had the same problem.Did a clean install fix the problem.

I think build 10061 was a leaked build. That my be the cause of the problem when updating.

I've got the same issue happening right now. No better fix than a clean install though?

    Hi there

There doesn't seem to be a fix at the moment -- Ms has made a bit of a boo boo on this if you want to do an UPDATE from 10061. Unless you have to do an update maybe wait a few days to see if a fix emerges.

Clean install DOES fix the problem though.

    Cheers

So do you figure it's worth doing a clean install of 10074? Or going back to the previous build (if that's even possible)?

Tried twice with 10074 and just as you described, cannot open the Start menu.

10074 is a much better build. I would clean install it.

By any chance did any of you run any kind of registry cleaner ? Some registry cleaner is not compatitble with Windows 10 and will delete certain registry keys that would cause this problem.

I did an update from 10061 and my start menu works just fine. Did you try running an sfc ?
