Wow, my irony meter just asploded. Has it not occurred to you that Windows 10 may follow the same path, with you "loathing it" at first, only to find that in time you find you actually like it?
    Highly unlikely.

See, the more I used 8 and as the betas improved, and 3rd-party customisation programs began to appear, the more I liked it. I liked 8.1 right from the start, and it only improved with age.

But the opposite is true with 10. I initially quite liked it, but I have come to like it less with each successive release.

And there's nothing at all ironic or unusual about it. Same thing happened many years ago, I gleefully installed a nice, new copy of WinME, but quickly discovered that neither I nor my machine liked it, so I removed it and went back to Win 98SE. Yes, I did eventually 'come to like it' but not until many years later when I could run it at my leisure in a VM and sort out some of its issues. It has never run as my primary OS except for that one time way back then.

Similarly, 10 is currently running in a VM and will remain there, but won't be my primary OS. Not unless a pretty big rabbit gets pulled from the MS hat between now and the final release, at least.

If I remember correctly. Didn't we use to have an option "Pin To Start List" when we right click on a program or shortcut ? In this build 10074, that option is no longer avavilable.
I have it, TopGun. I just checked and it's on the top: Pin to Start.

Thank you but that's not what I am refering to. Pin to Start List will pin an item to the left of the start screen, Pin To Start will pin an item to the right of the start screen as shown below:

Oh! I don't think I've seen it referred to as the Start List.

Usually when I install something new, I get a "Recently Added" blurb and it's listed there. And then, it just goes into the list.

It hasn't worked the last few builds. When W10 is final, this customize feature should be back I think.

Same here. I installed build 9841, played with it and found so many bugs so I waited until 10074 came out. And yes, in earlier version, Customize was available but not in this build.

I would also like to see that option back. In the mean time, use Taskbar Toolbars: Create a folder, name it as you wish, add it as a new Toolbar to Taskbar. Now add any shortcuts you would like to have in the Start Menu list in the Toolbar folder.

Here screenshots about what I mean. In my case I have not created a separate folder but have instead added the %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder to my Taskbar as a Toolbar. Any shortcuts I add in this folder will be available simply by opening the Toolbar. When closed it sits there, not disturbing me in any way (my Taskbar vertical at left, actual implementation might look different on your PC):

When opened, I have quick access to anything I want to:

Together with the Quick Launch toolbar I am pretty much covered :).

    Anyone else experienced this?

I added a local standard user account to test a certain thing, switched to it, did my test, switched back to my normal user account and deleted the test local account.

When the account was deleted I opened the Start Menu to launch an app, saw this:

All default app tiles gone from Start. Apps are still in Start Menu but I had to repin then one by one.

Oh that sucks. I absolutely hate having to resetup things. Did you try re-syncing your apps & settings on OneDrive(if you use it) in settings app?
