As a bit of fun, how old is your PC/Laptop running the latest?

    As a bit of fun, how old is your PC/Laptop running the latest?


    Latest preview build is running on my 2007 C 500 Compaq laptop. Earlier versions were a bit heavy on the CPU but now is a bit more lenient towards it. Logging in takes a longish time but once up and running it's bearable.

    Only things changed are CMOS battery and an 80 Gig spinner for a 60 Gig SSD.

    Originally with Vista then on to a dual boot Vista/XP then 7 SP1, 8 and 8.1. Bought as a 'refurbished' laptop from PC World. Any one beat that? :)

    I've got a 9-year-old Toshiba laptop with AMD Turion x64 and graphics that supposedly are not supported. Yes, it's a tad slow on the boot, but runs fine. Only things changed are HDD, battery and added more RAM.

    Adding more ram was not an option. Mobo not supporting it.

    Edge is useless with my CPU on this machine but IE 11 is ok if I run as admin. The add-ons to Edge helps though I think that browser has a long way still to go to compete with the others.

    Hi Fabler. My last two "standing" systems are comparatively new; both off the shelf instead of my normal self-built systems.

    The desktop was bought with Windows 8.0 Home on it and upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro. The laptop came with Windows 8.1 Home and upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro.

    Both systems have now been upgraded to Dual Boot Windows 10 Pro Retail and Windows 10 Pro, Build 14352.

    I'll soon be working on an older system, creating a Windows Server out of it.

    I've tried Edge and as before, I'm not sure it's anywhere near ready yet.

    Why don't you try Chrome or Firefox? They both seem to work better than IE.

    Using both browsers you recommend. They're ok but IE running as admin runs smother for some reason. See what you think. My laptop is so old it doesn't have a webcam or mic so Skype is out of it. I also have to remove a lot of live tiles from the Start menu to help the grandpa CPU. If it wasn't for the SSD I doubt it could still cope.

    1. You can use Skype; although it can be used as voice/video, it can also be used like the old chat programs such as Instant Messenger.

    2. I've removed all the tiles from Start. That way I just have the listing of apps to scroll through.

    3. Yeah, SSDs are the cat's meow, aren't they? I finally broke down and got a couple . . . well, actually I have four, but have misplaced the oldest one. I'll run across it some day, but until I actually need it, I won't worry about searching.

    Hmmmm, maybe I can ask Cortana where I put it.
