It can't just be me, right?

File Explorer is reguarly going 'non responsive', and sometimes even restarting itself, or freezing so badly that I have to end task in task manager and restart it manually. Tried updating, restarting the machine and fully shutting down. All I can find on Google is that it appeared to happen on a previous Win10 tech preview, but was apparently fixed.

I did a clean install of build 10049 straight from stock Win8 (previously kept my files and settings but had issues, so recovered and surprisingly it went back to win8, I thought the win10 tech preview was supposed to wipe out the recovery partition).

Anyone got a fix for this?

Join the crowd of folks who have random problems. I would suggest that you go to feedback, Click on Files, Folders and Online Storage and then on File Explorer to post your problem there. BTW, I read for a bit and didn't find your problem posted by anyone.

Describe your problem as much in detail as possible. You won't get anything back from Microsoft, but you will let them know about your issues.

I'm not sure, but I think this is a known issue, but you should go to Feedback, click on Cortana and Search, then on the appropriate heading.

Well, Build 10049 was a strange ride, but it's really not ready for prime time. I mean I know it's beta software, but this thing has just taken so many step-backs and non-sensical changes that just make things more awkward, compared to Windows 8.1, or even vanilla Win8.

    - No quick/easy access to screen brightness or shut down button like on Win8 Charms menu. Having to pull-up the full Display page isn't good for screen brightness, because then you have to do the extra step of closing the display window too. On Win8 you just popped charms in, dragged the bar, and you were done. It's also super redundant having to go to the left corner for the start button to pull-up the start menu in order to hit the power button - which depending on if you're in tablet mode or not (expanded mode or not), is then all the way on the right side of the screen That's just rediculous.

    - OneNote win10 app can suck a ****. The circular radical menu in Win8 OneNote to change pen thickness/color etc shits all over the "ribbon" in Win10 ON app. From what I've read the radical menu is getting discontinued, and I can't even find a way to change the pen's line thickness anymore.

    - The ergonomic keyboard for the touch keyboard (left hand keys on one side, right hand keys on other), now lacks the number pad in the middle. It's literally a missing space in the middle. This makes typing in passwords with both numbers and letters in them an absolute pain in the ass having to manually swap between letters and numbers all the time.

    - Don't know about anyone else, but even when in tablet mode, I find it infuriating to close modern apps. They don't always appear with the grey titlebar with fullscreen/min/max/close button on them, so I have to instead right click the taskbar icon and close it from there. So much worse than simply dragging the app from the top of the screen with my finger to close it.

    - Didn't use Quick Access in Win10, just like I didn't use Libraries in Win7/8. This seems to be the only big change I found in File Explorer in Win10 so far. File Explorer itself is also prone to freezing/non-responding, despite it being done from a clean install.

Not as ridiculous as the way you spelled ridiculous. It's rid as in ridicule.

Be that as it may, I don't find this too arduous. Just swipe in on the right and choose brightness adjust the brightness, and close the window.. not much different from having to close the charm. If you're in tablet mode, you just swipe down from the top.

I'm sure this version will improve. It's a free app. Buy the full one if you don't like it, or use Evernote, or any of a number of other free note taking apps.

Again, I don't find it that difficult, and my password has several switches from number/symbol to character. I like the center being open so I can actually see what i'm typing.

Dragging from the top works for me in tablet mode. If they're just maximized then you have to top the top get the bar to show up and hit the close box, or use the taskbar. Are you sure you're ACTUALLY in tablet mode? Tablet mode is not just expanding the start menu, you go into tablet mode from the notification bar.

I am still having problems with the high contrast theme. I need that because of my bad eyes but up to now the implementation is not complete and by far not as good as on W8.1. E.g. those puny progress bars are not visible (see pic). Some other windows, e.g. the Notifications, do not show in high contrast at all. That means they are unreadable. I have to switch to normal contrast and then ask my wife to read it to me. Not convenient at all.

That's not really a progress bar. That's more of a "Busy. Please wait" animation. It doesn't show any progress, just that's it is doing something.

The color is probably tied to a system color of some sort...

Yeah, whatever you call the bar. It is the same dismal picture with the new slimline progress bar. The color should be a contrast to the background - that is if it were implemented correctly.
