Installed Windows 10 build 10041 to main drive. First impressions...

Getting a SSD soon to install Windows 8.1.1, so I figured I'd try this out on bare metal before I replace the drive as my main. I tried an earlier build in a VM and thought it was alright, but I can't really test it in a thorough way through a VM. I've been using it for several hours.

So far it seems smooth. No major problems so far. I've restarted it twice and no hiccups. Start menu works okay, but it's still a bit weird with all the apps in the All Apps section. I don't use the apps much at all. The only one I could say I use regularly in 8 would be the sports app. The "Metro" search seems broken, though. I tried searching for, "defrag", so the Defrag and Optimize Drives option would pop up. It did pop up, but wouldn't work when I clicked on it a few times. I tried searching for it in the search bar by the start menu and it worked like a charm.

I use IE11 as my main browser in 8.1. IE has a stigma attached to it, but I find that it's the fastest browser and it works just fine for my needs. It works great in 10 too. Only had one problem with it. It crashed as I was in the middle of typing this out. Happened only once so far, luckily.

I downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia drivers. It went without a hitch. The Nvidia control panel works fine, even after restarting, but when I first tried it, it took forever to pop up. It only popped up after I activated it when I clicked on Task Manager. Not sure if that's a coincidence or what, but it works fine now. I also installed my sound card drivers and that works fine too. It's an Asus Xonar DX. Installed the UNI drivers.

Installed Steam and downloaded the latest Direct X. Played Skyrim. Have a bunch of mods installed. It actually seemed more stable in Windows 10 than Windows 8.1.1.

I was reading another thread with someone complaining about the settings menu. Yes, it seems a bit weird at first, but the standard control panel is still there. Just right-click the start menu and voila.

Anyway, that's my first take on Windows 10 and so far, so good. Don't know how long I'll be using it. When my SSD gets here, I'll more than likely install 8.1.1 on it. I would like to evaluate this further, though.

Thanks. I'll stick with the slow ring for now. The current build is pretty stable.

lol. There's nothing wrong with IE these days. It's been a long time since the days of IE6. I find it faster than firefox and it works just fine for my needs.

The game, Chrono Trigger. I don't usually use this name these days, but I used it on seven and eightforums, so what the heck.

I seriously don't get the IE hate these days. I understand IE got a lot of flack and for good reason, but it's fine now. I can also download adblock plus and other tracking protection to block ads, so that's a non-issue.

Yep I know. I have used IE since for along time. No big diff to me but to each his/her own. Actually I was picking the watch.

    The watch works too. lol

Had a couple of major hiccups. First was that was hanging for a while upon reboot. Had the Windows icon but no loading circle-thingy (still not awake. lol). It finally did load after a couple minutes. Then after a while browsing, the video just went to black screen. Couldn't do anything. power button didn't even work. Had to restart. Upon restart, it didn't hang at all. Loaded just fine. Weird.
