I guess I didn't search right, because every time I tried I came up with only stuff on the web and was told .esd was nowhere to be found, when in fact, it was right there. I'll try your method too, to see if it will work for me. I didn't use * in the search, which I probably should have.
Edit: Yep, there it is! Since that great big blob of Search is on the Start Menu, I guess I just forgot the one up there. BTW, it's in the exact same path as Meebers said. :) So, two ways to get to it now.
Thanks, Olivir.
OK everyone, I'm finally caught up. I downloaded the 10049 ISO from MEGA today (it was clean) and then just mounted the ISO in file explorer double clicked setup.exe and in place upgraded. Every thing went smooth as silk. I do like the new installation interface. When the setup process was finished I got a big "Hi there, welcome back".
What was cool was that I didn't even make a USB or DVD; I just mounted and clicked away and BOOM! new build.
Just ran disk cleanup to get rid of all the upgrade cruft and restarted. Now I'm running Maintenance to get everything inline. Only upgraded an hour ago, but I see improvements already, like the internet icon actually lets me turn my mobile broadband now, without having to go to settings. Spartan worked off the bat importing all my favorites as soon as I opend it the 1st time. I can't wait to see what else is fixed/added. Store (beta) is working well also.
I really don't understand why MS makes life so difficult by not just publishing the ISO. I could not get the regular 'settings' update to run properly on my laptop, and the download takes about 5 hours on my rather slow broadband line. Making a USB stick from the esd file on my desktop was a much more successful approach. Even then, I was not allowed to retain my settings and programs if I dared to review what was being kept.
They want to test the upgrade process so they initially make that the only option. Once that build gets released to the slow Ring an ISO will be available on the insider site.
Doesn't build 10049 have problems running on a VM? I'm guessing the slow ring versions would be a bit more stable for use.
The 10049 iso(s) are here.
