I'm in agreement, but Microsoft has a "plan"!

They know that those of us who love to test new product and prefer a clean install will put up with the update version for the time being, but when the ISO finally comes out, Microsoft knows we'll fall all over ourselves to get a clean install.

What this gives Microsoft is the best of both worlds. First we upgrade and then we do a clean installation. What more can they ask?

    Good Find!

    Techno, I would never!

That said, I broke my own cardinal rule and downloaded Build 10041 ISO from a site that seemed trustworthy from what I was reading in the thread. Ain't agonna do that again.

Besides, WHS's instructions made it easy for me to create my own ISO! Now I have no one but myself to blame if things go South.

In principle you are right. You have to first test whether any download you post is clean. But in the case of the 10049 iso link I posted, it was the official Microsoft link. So I can assume it is OK.

Um, not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but what makes those links official Microsoft links? They link to MEGA? And is Microsoft-News.com an official Microsoft site? I'm doubtful? I'm not trying to stir anything up, just asking?

They are likely fine, but it states on that site, "With the images downloaded from Windows update server, WinAero has created an ISO. You can download this ISO using a torrent client and install it on your PC. File size comes around 3GB.". Sounds like what KARI did to create an ISO from the upgrade download. It's not something Microsoft created, so use at your own risk is my advice. For me the torrent client reference made me think twice. Microsoft hasn't gone that route yet. Not as far as I know. They're talking about it though.

I just copied the above quote from that page............

The downloads are NOT official Microsoft files.

I like the idea of the upgrade, it saves having to redo all my settings and reinstalling various applications. I just want to be able to run it and if necessary re-run it from a USB stick. The online update takes about 5 hours to download on my rather slow broadband connection, so I would rather do it just once. Ideally I would like to be able to use something like wget which can restart, to get the update.

I guess they did what we are doing - converting the ESD to an ISO.
