I was trying to install 10049 on an external SSD from my Windows 10 virtual machine. All went well except that I could not chose the external SSD. It wanted to install it on the virtual disk where the current 10 is sitting. So I stopped it.

Now this is why I prefer clean installs. Download took maybe 30 minutes, upgrade is at 30 % after 3 hours. I won't be doing this again anytime soon.

My upgrade using the ISO took, at the most 15 minutes total time, and it kept everything from 10041 including .NET 3.5 that I need for my mobile broadband USB.

They want to test the upgrade process so they initially make that the only option. Once that build gets released to the slow Ring an ISO will be available on the insider site.
A better approach would be to ask people to try the upgrade process, but to make the iso available for those who want it. (IMHO)

The only problem I have with the upgrades is it wipes out my mapped network drives in my VM and I can't find a way to get them back. I've been performing clean installs but it's becoming a complete pain reinstalling all of my programs and configuring Windows again so it's Catch 22. I'd rather just be able to figure out the mapped drives issue as that would certainly be the easiest way round this.

I'd rather have an ISO, but I do see why they are doing it the way they are. They want to know of any upgrade issues now, not when the final version is released. This gives them time to fix it or speed it up etc.

I'm glad that someone finally posted a site where Windows 10, 10049 downloads could be found.
I was reluctant to post such a site here, for fear of being ostracized as I've been so many times before.

    Good Find!

Nobody is being ostracized around here. How did you get that idea.

They do if you if don't want to be on the fast track. MS is releasing ISOs when they release the builds on the slow track.

Exactly, ISO's will eventually be released. You just have to wait a bit.
