    Powered the computer off and it remained off overnight. Powered up about an hour ago, opened Edge and checked a few forums. Closed Edge and hit restart. Once again it froze only this time sooner than all the other times when fast startup was enabled. Though I have no evidence or knowledge to support my findings, I believe it may be related to the audio side of this laptop based on;

During restart, the wifi lamp turns off then quickly reilluminates. At the same time the lamp indicating the sound is disabled also turns off. After the wifi lamp illuminates, the sound lamp does not illuminate and I then know the laptop is frozen (along with the dots rotating stop rotating). When I use the power button for off/on, the two lamps illuminate sequentially and I know the notebook is going to start.

Reread the suggested instructions and discovered I had skipped the never sleep part. Went back and unchecked Sleep in Shutdown Settings. Via the menu I shutdown the laptop and started it back up with the power button twice. I then did restart and it has now worked twice. I am now going to enable fast startup and see what happens. After I enable fast startup, I'm going to shutdown via the menu, crank it back up, do a restart and ........

I will now uncheck fast startup, leave Sleep unchecked, power down/up followed by restart and see what I have.

During this process and my posting the results in this post, I have "posted" this reply 3 times. The 2 "posts" prior to this 3rd one actually posted yet, when I went through these exercises and relaunched Edge each time, there's the post in the edit mode or whatever the mode is called where I can keep typing. Strange, bizarre, crazy, just plain whacko man.

    Interesting.
    Please try this:
    Turn Off Fast Startup
Tell the computer to Never Sleep.
In power settings "When I close the Lid" = Hibernate
Shut the computer down via the menu.
Turn it on with the power switch, let it fully boot (3 min or so to "calm down")
Shut it down via the menu again
Unplug power cable and remove the battery
Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds
Insert power cable only and turn on with power button, let it fully boot again
Shut it down again via the menu
    Turn on with power button
Now try a restart via the menu

If successful, shut it down completely and reinstall the battery.
Turn it on, and try a restart again from the menu.

If not successful, perhaps you could try disabling wireless and sound in Device Manager. Try the shutdowns/restarts, and see if the problem is gone. If so, enable the wifi, try the shutdowns/restarts and see if the problem is still gone. If it is, then enable the sound, do the same, and see if the problem returns. If so, then it could be a driver issue.

Yes, if Edge is pulling up this page from its cache, the forum saves your reply for you , and it will show up again just like that, so you can continue your reply. To fix that, navigate to another page in this thread and then return to this page, and your reply will be gone.

Ok to all. It'll probably be maybe 2 hours. Just gotta a call from my niece for something wrong (nothing dangerous, criminal, etc) at her house (washing machine issue). I shall return and do it all and report my findings. Thanks a bunch.

Even after I have sent / posted my reply? Strange. As stated before, it works when fast startup is not checked. Should I just leave it that way or do you want me to now enable fast startup and give it a try? Regarding never sleep modes, I have "never sleep" only when the notebook is plugged in; is that ok or should I "never sleep" for battery only mode too?

Ok, I did the remove battery, etc deal and restart function works.

Yes, if you've gone through the steps I posted, and everything is working fine, then yes, let's try turning the Fast Startup on now, and see if the problem is gone.

I think it's ok for battery only mode.

No, with it off. I'll turn it on now and give it a whirl. Should I turn it on and power off/up or turn it on and go to restart?
