This sounds like the profile crashed and the system logged you on with a temporary profile.
Happened to my brother recently in Win7. I ran Startup Repair on that and it fixed everything - dunno if it'll be the same in Win10 tho'
I guess it never dawned on me to try a Repair. I'll keep that in mind if I cross that again, thanks!

If you are installing Win 10 as a replacement of your only working system, then this is a big issue. Otherwise, it's all part of the fun and that's why this forum exists. :)
If you have a spare hard drive, play with it separately and leave your other OS intact.
This is exactly what I did. I added another partition to my hard drive and installed Windows 10 on that partition. This allows my HP to dual boot to either Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 Tech Preview. That way, if there is ever a problem, I simply boot to Windows 8.1 and delete the partition for Windows 10.

Also, might I add, people are getting totally upset a lot at Microsoft about issues with Windows 10, design changes, etc. What they fail to realize is that this is NOT a completed, fully polished OS yet. Microsoft is still working on a lot of changes to the OS before its release this summer. I had one guy on another site say, "well there is no way they will complete this by summer so what you see is what we will be stuck with, Windows 10 sucks!" I told him that Microsoft reserves the right to delay the release if they haven't polished it up enough by summer, so who is he so say!? This is a TECHNICAL PREVIEW people, not even a CONSUMER PREVIEW! Don't depend on this OS as your primary OS and take it for what it is. Microsoft is allowing "we the people" to participate in creating what I think will be the BEST OS ever put out to the public. One OS for ALL devices! Never been done before. Let's give them credit shall we?

    Ditto!

We must have said that at least a thousand times on the old Windows 8 forum, but like....who listened?
Daily someone would come on stating that W-8 crashed and took all their data with it. What data? All of it, because they wrongly installed W-8 Beta, right over their Windows 7 (or whatever their main OS had been).
Even Microsoft, on their ISO download site, told everyone NOT to do that.

If nothing else, Beta Testers get real good at doing Clean Installs from an Install DVD. But personally, I've never had to reinstall Windows 10 on any of the four PC's I've installed it on. It just works, right out of the box.
But then, I only do CLEAN installs, and I let the installer "Format" the partition I'm installing to, so there is nothing left there to muck up the works. That's why I call it a "CLEAN" install.

    Testing will continue.............
