    Can't search! Windows 10 build 10041

Hello, I have got a small question; I have got a minor issue I open the start menu...the search bar is missing, and so therefore I cannot search for anything. I have tried restarting my PC and that didn't work, and the Cortana search bar on the taskbar isn't working either....
Does anyone else have this issue and does anyone know if this will be fixed in a l8r update?
Thanks in advance I want to do a YouTube review of this but I can't yet without the possibility to search!

Hang on a sec i think I just fixed it, I realized that when I upgraded to build 10041, all the regedit changes I have made were reverted back to default, so I changed them to my custom settings and then i literally logged out and in again and it fixed the problem! strange.....

Not really, when you perform an update from one build to the next the registry will have to be re-installed for the new build so none of your mods will be carried forward.

I am also having a problem with search working. It comes and goes at random. I have not made any regedit changes to Windows 10.

    Cortana requires two things

    1) an active internet connection. Search should work on a local machine, I consider this a bug.

    2) A MS account - ok, this might be required if you want all the fancy schmancy search stuff from Cortanta, but you should be able to search the Internet without a MS account - I consider this a bug too.

Before anyone informs me that the Windows explorer search works - I know.
The Modern search doesn't seem to work on my machine in 10.041 - I thought I saw something about federated searches being disabled - not sure.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the Menu search is front and foremost - it should handle all type of searches.
If the Internet isn't available, fallback to Windows explorer search. If the user does not want a MS account, fallback to std search engines (either default to Bing or use what the Internet options state.

We'll have to wait for MS to flesh this out more in future releases. What they cannot / should not do is allow search to fail because of an arbitrary 'requirement'

    Hi there

The Search from the menu works a bit funny -- you have to type directly into it -- if you move a mouse for example into it you won't be able to type text for searching.

Otherwise although bad the LOCAL search does work again after the latest updates.

What I don't like though is say you type a search argument like Dogs -- it will then search the !""£$%%^^ STORE !!!!. It should IMO search LOCAL first and then if you are connected to the net search THAT next and only use the Store if you want it -- presumably that's why there's a STORE app,

    Cheers

Looking for a little help with this issue as well. I have one user which is an MSA & search works just marvelously. I have another account for a family member which is a local account only. I'll be darned if I can get search to work. I realize that you must have an MSA account to access Cortana ... but I just want search to work for Windows in this local account. Ideas?
