I never had that problem when I upgraded and still don't after clean install but I'm not running a VM.

You could try to ticking Always show all icons and notifications in the taskbar as a workaround.

    Thanks --that worked.

Jimbo, you're always such a Drama Queen when it comes to new releases

Every new release is an epic fail and you're going back to the previous release permanently.. except you never do.. and you keep tweaking things until you finally decide you love it and it's the best thing ever

I'm just teasing you... But the reality here is that VMWare tends to tweak things to support the guest OS's, and new builds change things internally, which can break the tweaks that VMWare makes, so with preview builds you may have to wait for VMWare to fix those problems.

Hyper-V and Virtual Box tend to stick much closer to the published API's and thus have fewer problems with new builds.

You really should also give each new release a full shake before trying to apply hacks from previous releases. The new start menu, for instance, has hierarchical sub-menus so you can organize things better.

Tools reinstalled. Where do I look to adjust the screen size? I can't seem to find it.
Right-click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution. On the Screen Resolution dialog there is a drop down box labeled "Screen resolution". If you want your VM to use your entire screen, match the screen resolution to the same resolution as your monitor.

It is much much faster as well. My upgrade to 10041 took forever compared to clean installing it.
Ditto. No guess work involved. Apart from the process of creating the ISO, a clean install works very much faster then the update.

Even faster if you create your account as a local account and convert it to MS account after reaching the desktop rather than creating it straight off as a MS account.

    Hi there

perhaps I was a bit quick off the mark this time -- however I should expect a newer release to work initially better than the older one -- at least for "bog standard" features.

These days Audio is probably MEGA important -- Loads of us now stream video / audio all over the place and if the Clients (Win machines) have problem with this then that's a big no no for users.

VMware I know always will have a problem when using it with "Preview" OS'es - however testing in a VM is usually a good idea BEFORE committing to a real machine. HYPER-V works OK but this is only a Windows facility - I usually use a Linux Server as a HOST for testing VM's. Normally no problem and the SAME VM can be run on a WINDOWS Host too.

I still maintain though that the SEARCH is HOPELESS and was better on build 9847 !!!.

Still at least I TEST stuff and probably can break things that a lot of people don't bother to try until it's too late.

For example -- Storage spaces -- If you REVERT back to W8.1 from W10 having created a storage space on W10 you can't access it --you'll get Storage space configuration error. If you RESET the storage space you'll lose data. I posted a get around --re-install W10 again . The storage space is OK and you can SAVE data.

Now this type of thing should NOT happen -- things like File systems should work across at least the last TWO versions of the OS.
At least there should be a WARNING that the storage space is incompatible with previous versions of the OS.

(Creating the Storage space in W8.1initially causes no problem even if after installing W10 you revert back again).

    Cheers

Yep! The problem is that the ISO image of the 10041 version didn't exist yet!
Just in case, waiting for Microsoft, it's possible to have one of it "not original" or handmade?

    Hi there

I don't think I'm being unreasonable when complaining with the Start menu -- what on Earth do I do with this -- it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get access to the display applications part.

Same problem on a VM or REAL machine.

    Cheers

Try disabling the search bar. Do you really use that bar?
