9926 New Build, Some same old issues, some improvements

So after the fiasco that was the 9879 folder crashing issue and the completely botched update fix+ I had almost given up on the whole tech preview things. Recently after about a month of not being able to even boot to any of the 3 tech preview installations, I had ,due to various issues I was able to fix an install of 9879.

It seemed I had finally fixed the problems and was just getting 9879 to where I like it when 9926 came into play. I'm late on the updates but I tried to manually update it just to have more control if something went wrong. After 2 failed attempts to update install I pretty much gave up but when I went back to 9879, and it was back to its old behavior (massive corruptions, washed out icons, folders crashing, search not working, updates failing).

So for about the 100th time I had to boot to the RE. I have never had the refresh work, not once, ever. Same with startup repair. Just endless loop, will almost always freeze or just report the "something went wrong" error. But just as a lark I tried the refresh again. To my amazement it actually started a refresh and seemed to be actually doing something. Granted I had booted to the 9879 ISO but after refresh finished my computer rebooted and I see that it's now 9926.

I guess it finally finished an install attempt from before? That is what usually happened, would seem to do the install but on reboot would show an error. Anyway, so now I have 9926 and things seemed to be OK, but starting last night I ran into some of the same old issues and a couple of new ones.

First, I accidentally ran a autologon tweak associated with also activating the Admin account. Now everytime I boot to tech preview it automatically signs on with the Admin account and is so fast that I don't have any time to stop it. Problem worsened by one of the following. I only activated the Admin account because a whole new slew of permission errors and "access denied" stuff started all over again. Usually happens when installing programs or drivers, and is almost always some error about "Program unable to access or writer to C:".
Also errors with installs of Visual Studios where can't create the program folder on the C:\ drive. Many times the program will give an error about lacking sufficient privilidtges. Almost always fails on install. Now an issue with Itunes as used Glary's utilities and let it install what I thought was an update to Itunes but actually installed an older version.

Now I'm trying to update the build to newest 64 bit Itunes version and old version won't uninstall due to above errors and then the new version wont install for same. Running compatibiity trouble shooter doesnt seem to help, so now stuck with unworkable programs that won't uninstall. All MS recomended fixes are hotfixes, etc, but will not install. None of the hotfixes for previously known issues (for 8.1 for example) will install or work.

Additionally, I like the new tweak to change the logon screen (Download Windows 10 Hidden Secret Login Screen for Windows 7 - AskVG) as it shows a message about updates in bottom right. But what happened with Windows update? I can no longer even find it. It's not on control panel anymore, and for some reason I can't find PC Settings anymore. The start button seems frozen and doesn't open. Once again the icons in the taskbar are starting to freeze and are non workable until a restart. Read about a registration issue but I keep getting stuck, not even able to shut down the computer. Then start getting an error message even trying to hit control alt delete to get to task manager and have to manually power down. I hate it that I can't even get to Windows update or PC settings and the start button is frozen. I keep getting these issues that are making my versions almost unusable. Now also starting to get the icon corruptions coming back, and most icons are again just washed out white forms. Anyone know what is causing this?

Search and indexing are back to their old slow as all get out thing and now also for some unknown reason the file history stopped working. I never removed the drive but noticed that about 4 days ago it stopped keeping track of file history. Now when I try to re-add that drive or any other drive it says "access denied". I even tried cleaning out the drive and reformatting and then just adding it as a new file history drive but still get "access denied". Super frustrating again and was just getting it to work when this all started happening. Do you think I have a virus/malware?

Can't seem to get into things I need when I need them and it seems a little worrying that the rescue aides are being affected (like malware would do). At least for the time being I'm still able to make a restore point, but like in the past when I try to restore from boot ISO, I'm often getting the error that no restore points exist, despite how many I can see in the live install and despite just having made a new point.

Or i'm a lucky guy or there's something wrong with my system. I'm running build 9926 for weeks without any major problem, just minor bugs and nothing that couldn't be workarounded, except connectivity with my Windows Phones, but for them I still have Windows 8.1.

Sorry. That's what it's doing to me. Had one problem to talk about but ended up with a stream of conciousness blog as one problem seems lead to another.

It's making you write incoherent posts?? That's not a blog but a run on sentence that makes no sense.

I read that moving to an SSD might help with corruptions. But don't think it would help that much, and previous installs of 8.1 didn't have that issue. These hard drives are brand new, and with clean installs.

What corruptions are you talking about?? Hmm.. Are you trying to adjust anything after the instillation?? Better yet, are you experienced with testing a new OS?? If not you may not want to do this.

well , every other SFC was coming back with corruptions found but not fixed and was really bad in 9879. I meant Icon cache corruptions this time. Not so many with running SFC anymore but that was a constant headache in 9879. Now if I do get a corruption report on running SFC it will usually say it was able to fix them.

It was OK with 9926 until yesterday. With start button and task bar freezing its hard to even restart. I'll get to windows update later when I get home to see if that helps. But I don't remember reading about them moving update off control panel. I'm reading about the registration issue with the start button. The previous SFC corruptions I was talking about were finally fixed but creating batch commands to manually re-register all system .dll files. Sounds like I may need to do that again.

A new build is going to be released soon. Maybe a clean install with the new build will solve your problems.
