What type of content is on the discs, movies or stored data? If it's movies it may be you don't have a DVD player software installed. I got Windows DVD Player on my Win8.1 when offered then Upgraded to the free Win10 RTM, works with commercially-recorded movies and those I recorded on my VCR/DVD machine from the cable's TCM/Turner Classic Movies.

In device manager, right click on the DVD drive and look on the volumes tab (I think it is). With a disc inserted click refresh, does it show the volume on the disk or does it continue to show No Media? The TSSTcorp DVD drive in my wife's laptop would never show a disk inserted. I didn't feel like loading Windows 7 to see if it was Windows 10 or the drive itself, so I just went on ebay and got a different brand DVD-RW for $15. New one (HL brand) had no problems.

Hint - those drives come in two sizes I think they are slim and super slim or something like that. The very front bezel of those drives can be carefully removed and exchanged (but the drive has to be open to do it) and also there might be a very small bracket on the back of the drive with the hole for the screw that keeps it in place. After you've done it once, it only takes about 5 minutes and a mini screwdriver set to replace.
