"windows fails to start" with rapid mode enabled is new. I haven't had that problem. I took rapid mode off and went to reliability for various reasons but it still boots.

Samsung 4.9.7 on 14342 - says AHCI needs to be enabled (it is), can't detect SATA III connection, and can't enable Rapid Mode (greyed out). Fine on 10586 and on win 8.1 .

I just did that upgrade to 4.9.7 and it works just fine. I had to set reliability/performance and that but it's working fine. I can see Rapid Mode, it's not greyed out, I can use it if I wish. OP is also working and set so on my end it appears to be working, just finished with this upgrade and rebooting.

We're both running Intel I-series, you i5, me i7. But you have an 840, mine is an 850.. Wonder what the difference is. I'm also triple booting 10586/14342/8.1, but shouldn't make any difference. Also, in Startup tab on taskmanager, Magician always shows "Not Measured". Any thoughts?

My AHCI Mode is on so it was recognized. Maybe there is a driver issue you are experiencing? In the Startup tab I have never had Magician, don't know what that's about. Everything on my end is working so maybe look to driver issue in Device Manager. The triple boot might be doing something, hard to tell and not easy to rebuild. There is always the standby, wait until the next release and see if it corrects itself.
Have you uninstalled Magician making sure to clear it's history on the drive and then reinstalled the new 4.9.7?
