Well Jimbo, never will have a laptop, i consider that a "sophisticaded type machine", but that's me.

Do not like a tablet as well.

    Will always use a dekstop/workstation.

Anyway, do not have a touchscreen either.

A few more adjustments and we are years back using Win 7.

For some users Win7 is going to be the OS of choice and I can understand why. Some people just don't either want to or understand how to upgrade and OS and their current OS does the job they need it to do.

Noting wrong with that. Win7 is still a decent OS. IMO.

    Here's what I've noticed:

    * Desktop version of Windows Update application is gone
    * Some experimental CMD features enabled by default
    * Nicer Multiple Desktop transitions, much more obvious when you're switching desktops
    * Multiple copies of drives in Explorer are now gone (I figured this was just temporary anyways)
    * Most things now seem to scroll vertically instead of horizontally, such as the Modern apps list and store content
    * Win-C now brings up Hamburger menus if available instead of charms

Overall, its looking pretty good and feels a lot more solid and put together. I may just make the consumer preview when it comes out my primary workstation.

    Hi there

One of the biggest reasons I had in moving from W7 was the use of Storage spaces --so much better than RAID and Dynamic volumes.

I hated the wonky way Libraries were handled on W7. I have some quite large datasets that spread over several volumes --being able to dynamically add volumes at will was a real Game Changer for me.

I have nothing at all against W7 but it does miss some features I'm so used to using now that I would find it a hassle to switch back. Another one is the ability to natively mount iso's -- a very nice feature if you don't (as most modern portable machines don't these days) have a DVD / CD player / writer built in.

I also actually do value Touch in quite a few situations - especially when giving presentations and support for Intel Wireless displays is another thing I think people staying on W7 might miss out on.

By all means stick with an OS that works for you but whatever you use it's (at least I think it is) always nice to try something new out --if it's no good or you don't like it - nothing lost and you'll have still gained some experience -- and it keeps the Brain active.

    Cheers

The update is only in the Settings and I like the way it works.

There's a heck of a lot more processes running in Task Manager on this Build.

Used it briefly last nigh on my laptop. My first impressions are that I don't like the new Start Menu/Screen. It's seems usable enough in tablet mode. Took me forever to find that setting to change it. Its more appealing looks wise in tablet mode than the other mode, for me anyway. Still don't like it though, but I'll take my own advise and try using it for a while before totally giving up on it. It's a new learning curve that's for sure. No more charms bar so you have to use "Settings". Control Panel is still there, if you look hard enough. The old just type what your looking for on the Start Screen is gone? Why? You have to hover in the top right corner for a bit now to get the X to close stuff. No Desktop Tile on the Metro Start screen/menu, you have to click the Start Button to get back to the desktop. Windows logo key might work too, I didn't think to try it. I'm on my desktop PC running 8.1 at the moment, debating to even bother installing 10 TP on it? I likely will but I'm not as enthused about doing it as I was yesterday. One thing I noticed is it took forever for something to happen after booting from my thumb drive on my laptop. Just a blank screen with no drive activity that I could see. The just about when I was going to force a power down the install started up again. I didn't time it but I'm guessing 10 minutes at least of just a black blank screen. No flashing under score or cursor. Anybody else in the same spot may just want to wait it out to see if it continues after a while.

    Haha Addram,

    A bridge too far.....

Although i do not like the upgraded Windows 10 (the startbutton is a joke), Win 8.1 was the best OS i ever had from MS.

I can understand most do not want the Metro, but in the previous WIn 10 one could choose.

If i would have to pay for this, i will skip.
