    Thank you,
I believe the last version was closer than this one,
I feel disenfranchised now it's going the opposite way not in a positive way I don't even see it as a good choice fr a mobile device :/
Freaking list is way to long to be useful to anyone really
Now Microsoft is just screwing with use and shows the start button is useless
    Cheers.
    Hi there

Not sure why -- try applying the mod which restores the old (build 9879) start menu (re-sizeable with working search bar).

    Cheers

Thanks that does one nasty thing Jimbo,
It brings back Bing search default
Which Cortana search default is better at this point and is separated from the start menu which has no search
So now the start button is rendered useless imho
    Cheers.
    Hi there.

I only tend to use the search for finding local programs like say Ms word without having to scroll either vertically or horizontally - so the Bing thing is irrelevant in my case.

If you want an Internet search stick to your browser and set the search engine to whatever you want.

I do agree though if you want to operate is DESKTOP MODE only then the whole metro stuff should be "Zonked" and a menu like W7 bought back. But I agree the thing should work in "Hybrid" or even in "Full tablet mode" for those who want to use their hardware that way and have a simple way of switching between all 3 modes.

Actually apart from the start menu going back to W7 does make the OS seem a bit "dated" now -- but that's people's choice - run whatever OS you like.

I'm quite glad Ms is giving us something to play with at No cost to ourselves other than posting on to the forums !!!.

    Cheers
    jimbo

I never use the search bar to find something on the web. I just use it to look for stuffs inside windows OS. If I need to find something online, I fire up the Chrome.

    Missing Cortana

With my desktop, I don't have a microphone connected, so Cortana isn't really an option, but, should I not be able to see the App. If I try & install from the Apps Store, it tells me it's already installed.

Hope it's not something stupid that I'm missing!

There won’t be much “discussion” from me about build 9926. Some may find that favorable. I’m finding this build frustrating.

    1) Mostly haven’t got the time because of the remodel. Extremely busy with that and need to concentrate on it.
    2) Booted up my machine last night only to find it preboot scanning my E drive, which is empty. ???
    3) Finally booted up to 10 and after a minute got a blue screen with “Bad Boot Header” warning which most likely fault(s) in the Registry due to the upgrade method. Need to fresh install. Seems last build upgrade was ok.
    4) From what I saw I’m not enjoying the experience. Liking 8.1, the Start screen is a must. Full screen Start menu is not the answer. Hoping Continuum fixes this. Don’t read much from MS on Continuum lately??? I like the way tiles are grouped and easily arranged more like the phone, though. Better than 8.1.
    5) No live tiles except Cortana tile, or is it just me? Cortana is a great addition. I like that.
    6) Can’t navigate the Start menu with the keyboard. Absolutely worthless for me.
    7) Need Modern IE.
    8) Snapping still messed up.

    Other than that it’s ok.

I'm afraid to investigate further. Signing off for now.....

To turn Cortana on try this. Click on the icon for search(magnify glass) the hamburger icon is the three horizontal lines at the top. Click on that then select setting and the Cortana will let you slide a slider to turn her on.

Now that I got rid of the weird labeling spaces between App tiles (by dragging them to overlap the tile above, per Moneypit) I don't mind Start menu's pear shape. I don't like not being able to pin folders (Downloads, Greg) to list. What's the point of pinning them as App Tiles only when they're obviously Places? I see the Start Menu Customize button is not available. Must be under construction. Probably a good time to send more feedback about dropping Headings and letting us pin folders to left side. Customization headings meant for a Start Screen shouldn't all be required on the Start Menu.

Cortana isn't speaking to me today. She has a bug in her throat.
