    HD Clone to SSD problems in 11082


    I recently installed the 11082 update to Windows 10. On my machine I have a 500GB (120GB used) hard drive and a 120GB SSD. The hard drive installation seems to be working fine. Every time I go through the clone process to the SSD using Macrium Reflect 6.1.1000 the cloning process ends fine. I then change the boot order and reboot from the SSD and that works fine initially but the second time I boot from the SSD it says Windows has a problem and cannot start or repair itself. I have tried this multiple times and the second boot from the SSD always fails even though I do nothing to the system between the first SSD boot and the second.

    So the first time it boots up from the Windows 10 11082 SSD it must detect or change something that corrupts the system. The thing is I can switch back to the hard drive and it continues to boot just fine into 11082. I have even tried disconnecting the HD before the SSD boots and it does the same thing (fails) on the second SSD boot. I even tried doing a backup after the first SSD boot and then trying to restore it but that fails when it reboots so the system seems already corrupted at that point.

    I have been using this update scenario (first HD then SSD) for quite some time on this machine and this is the first build where I cannot switch over to the cloned SSD.

    Has anyone else experienced this issue in 11082 or better yet resolved the problem?

    Try turning off fast startup:

    I do not think I have Fast Startup turned on. All those four options are grayed out (but Fast startup is checked).

    I have Hibernate set to Never, Hybrid sleep to On.

    Yeah, you have to click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" to get to it.

    I turned Fast Boot off as you suggested and then cloned the WD Hard Drive over to the Kingston SSD once again using the latest version of Macrium Reflect.

    I then then shut down the entire machine. I turned it back on and then went into the BIOS and switched to the SSD to boot from. The machine came up fine on the SSD and I checked that Fast Boot was still off (it was).

    I then restarted the machine (second boot from the SSD) and it failed again with the same message (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION) which just causes an endless Boot loop.

    I restarted the machine again and switched to the HD to boot from and everything is fine. I can run from the HD without issues but cannot get the SSD clone to boot more than once.

    I never had this issue cloning the HD to SSD before the 11082 build....................

    Let's see if we can get @essenbe here to help. He is a SSD guru. :)
    EDIT: I recently discussed something like this with him, and he said the best thing to do when going from a spinner to a SSD is to clean install the SSD to get the alignment correct, then drag the partitions over from the spinner to the SSD in Macrium.

    Even though it will involve an extra step but I would suggest to create a backup image of your HD to another external/internal disk then restore the image to the SSD which will ensure proper alignment for the SSD instead of cloning. Sometimes cloning also clone the disk ID which can cause a conflict with the same Disk ID on both.

    EDIT:     Since you've already did the clone. Use diskpart to verify the Disk ID and make sure they are not the same.

    I should have mentioned that I originally thought it might be a SSD issue so I swapped out the Kingston 120GB SSD I had been using all along for a brand new identical Kingston model SSD. It made no difference, it still fails on the second boot off the SSD.

    I do not understand what you mean by a "Clean Install of the SSD to get the alignment correct" but I would have thought that would have happened when I switched to the new SSD.

    I am using the Clone option of Macrium Backup and not dragging the individual Partitions. Is there a difference if you drag the partitions over individually?

    Macrium just updated Reflect to 6.1.1000 from 6.1.936 before I started this latest Clone process. I suppose it could be an issue with the Cloning process and not 11082.

    Maybe I should try a different Cloning program, do you have any suggestions?

    I have tried Cloning the HD to the SSD and then shutting down and system and disconnecting the HD before I rebooted on the SSD and experienced the same issue (Boots fine once fails on second boot). If the HD was not even installed anymore I cannot see how DISK ID could be the issue.

    I will try doing a backup of the HD to a flash drive and then restoring it to the SSD.

    You disconnect all hard drives except for the new SSD and you put an installation of W10 on it - just a bare, clean installation. This sets the partitions AND the alignment for the SSD. Then you shutdown, reattach the spinner, boot to the spinner, open Macrium and drag each partition from the spinner to the respective partition on the SSD.
