Stuck in Maintenance Mode (build 9879)

    Hi there

what is this "Maintenance mode". I got a notification from the windows notification toolbar that the system was performing "Maintenance" ??? - Even though it's on an SSD the whole system runs really sluggishly and I can't de-activate it. !! What is it -- whatever it is it KILLS the system.

Internet is also slowed hideously --I'm downloading LEGAL TORRENT (Opensuse 13.1 DVD from Warwick University UK --needed the previous release - it's a proper mirror site) -- normally at my speed downloads at 8MB/s on torrent with that many seeds is quite normal -- it's downloading now at 2.5 kb/s !!!! with 1 yr estimated completion time instead of around 7 mins !!!!).

Even Google takes 20 secs to load !!!!! Something seriously wrong with that Maintenance mode thingy.

I tested with another computer (laptop) on my SAME router and it's working fine -- so the maintenance is the culprit - but I can't seem to switch it off.

    Any ideas anybody !!!!.

    Cheers

Maintenance seems to be a new catch all term for doing scheduled task. You can looked in task scheduler to figure out what some of it is. I've noticed when mine said doing maintenance, sometimes it was Windows Defender updating, or doing a scan, or the built in disk defrag running. Other times I've had no idea what the heck it was doing and did a restart to force the maintenance to end. Glad to hear I'm not the only one having internet issues when certain things are running. I'll post back if I figure out more

    Hello Jimbo,

It sounds like Automatic Maintenance may be running. If so, see if you are able to manually stop it using the method in the tutorial below.

Automatic Maintenance - Manually Start or Stop in Windows 8

If this was the cause, then you can change Automatic Maintenance settings to run when you are not busy on the computer.

Had the same thing going on for about 48 hours a couple days ago.
Showed 2hrs-40min to download a lousy 40Mb file.
All is normal now though, never did figure it out.

I notice, from time to time, a heck of a lot more idle maintenance going on than in Windows 8.1.
