I like that design, looks nice!
I thought so! Looks a little more refined. I'm not crazy about this trend toward the 'flat, light pastel colors' look.

Aero/Chrome had its day, but the trouble of it is that it was too much “machine” which made me feel machine-like > Matrix-like. I found the Metro design language very refreshing. Makes me feel more a part of nature of which we are, not part of a machine.

The folders you presented are more in line with the Metro design language than the manila folders, which BTW they present them the way we use them (vertical lying flat), not storing them (horizontal).

You make some good points HG!
Especially the part about the way folders are presented and used.
I've got a couple widgets on my tablet where you can flip through recent items like a roll-o-dex; I thought that to be a cool idea but might be a bit much for a heavily populated Windows folder. Maybe for 'Recent Items' or something like that.
Maybe they have stuff like that on a Windows Phone/Tablet?
(Almost bought a Windows Phone the other day but had reservations about the features, especially Cortana!)
    (Nice pics btw!)

"Disk cleanup taking forever to launch"

Speaking of Cleanup, I got the system to quit reloading Explorer every time I touched it by turning off the touch service(apropos I know) but running disk cleanup hardly cleaned up anything. Is there a folder tree that can be deleted in one go to get rid of the installation chaff?

I'm running in a VM and before I killed the touch service and Windows Search I could not even arrow down the Winkey x menu. Really tough sledding even after defrag of the guest and host OS drives.
