Build 9860 - Touch greatly improved

    Hi there

On Build 9860 on an HP Touch (sleekbook) laptop running Native (not as a VM) Touch is vastly improved.

On the metro apps for example News the windowing works properly and within the window you can slide the screen. Same with Office 2013 although the touch part is a bit flaky still - but that's due to Office 2013 rather than the OS.

What still is strange is for example if you select say PC settings and Window it (i.e not in full screen mode) you can only slide it across the screen if you slide in the TITLE BAR area - not in the application screen / window area ??? Strange.

On a Touch device (now I'm actually LIKING touch devices) -- and I LIKE the dynamic updating of Metro apps now I can WINDOW them -- no more fixed rigid sizes like 1/2 or 1/4 of the screen -- Ms please leave these as WINDOWABLE in future builds.

I'm itching to try out the OS on the Surface Pro 3 - but I'll probably wait until at least the NEXT build.

    Cheers

Good to hear it's getting better for touch (some time along the line will do a full install to try touch instead of a VM)

    A couple of questions
Do they default to launching full screen or maximized on the desktop
Do you get the full charms bar for the apps when using touch (swipe from right) or do you need to use the new charms dots at the top left

    Hi Paul

I'm playing around now with ANDROID as a VM -- I want to try out the Ms Office for tablet if I can get hold of it -- I don't have an android tablet so a Touch laptop running a VM is the next best approach.

Running Metro from the Desktop (I.e the classic menu) opens the app in the last window size you used . If it's the First time it's in Full i.e MAXIMISED (Windowed) screen (with title bar). To get 100% Full screen (No titles etc) use the charms (the three dots at the top left side of the window) and select from the dropdown full screen. The dropdown can be accessed via TOUCH or MOUSE.

To exit full screen use either the ESC key or slide DOWNWARDS from the top of the screen (left top). That brings the Window back again. On Classic desktop I haven't been able to see the old Charms bar but I'm not sure I need it on Desktop.

I haven't yet booted up in the Start mode which is what I'll do next. There doesn't seem (at least not that I know of) any way from dynamically switching from "Desktop" mode to the W8 type of Start mode.

    Cheers

    Hi,
Thanks for the update, this is a side of things I am looking forward to hearing more about (would like to get a Win tablet sometime in next few months so want to see how touch side is going to work)
Hoping that there is two main options, Win 8 look/feel or Win 10 look/feel, possible a combination of both to suit the user

Just been reading recently about Office for Android, its not available for me that I can see yet, but once I get it going will let you know how it works on the tablet

    Cheers

    Hi Jimbo

I've also tried running Android as a VM but haven't been able to get any sound.
Has that been your experience as well, or is there a solution for the problem ?

    Hi Jimbo:

You can find the link to sign up for Office for Android here: More Office. Everywhere you need it. - The Official Microsoft Blog

Since you're probably three days out from the initial announcement, you'll probably get onto the waiting list . . . I signed up the very first day and got an email saying I'll either get an email inviting me to the preview or I'll be put on the waiting list. So far, nothing, but it's the weekend.
