To not liking the Start Menu, also doesn't work for me. I much prefer the Start Screen.

To snap now being useless for Metro apps. Same deal with me, they don't reduce enough now to snap where I want them to. They don't snap at all for me. Desktop programs will now snap in quadrants but Metro apps won't, not on my systems anyway. Maybe you need a 50 inch 4K screen.

Personally, I do not use Metro apps or the Start Screen, so I can't say anything about them. The Start Menu is strangely left without the usual customization options and some of the Metro apps are pinned there with no obvious way to get rid of them.

Files explorer also needs more work. While there might be some logic behind the Home and This PC things, but I typically do not use these artificial constructions. I organize my files myself, usually on a separate drive. I should be able to configure the navigation pane of the explorer easily, but for now that's not the case.

    Hi there

Build 9860 -- now at least I can READ the start menu --a huge improvement. I still would like though for the start menu text size to be changeable in the same way as other text can in the display menu.

Touch for me still doesn't work 100% -- not too bothered yet as I realize the first priority in W10 was to get XP and W7 users on side - W8 really pissed a lot of them off and while W8.1 was streets better the damage had already been done.

I'm just ITCHING to try this on my Surface SP3 - but I won't do it until the Touch system has been fixed.

I just get the feeling that build 9860 is a tad slower than the first build -- but again there might be all sorts of debugging / other info in it that won't be around when the final release is out of the door.

I'm not going back to the previous build however. I still think Ms is on to a winner with this OS.

    Cheers

When was the last time you saw an optometrist? Or could you?

This is an odd and older 18-inch diagonal square Philips monitor I’m using temporarily. Everyone laughs at it! Probably MS techs also. It is funny looking. Even the busy bead circle is oblong vertically. No fault of the OSs 8.1 and 10, but had blinking of the monitor because of display driver failure and quick recovery. That seems to have worked itself out in both systems. Hasn’t failed in a while anyway.

Actually I think one needs at the very least a 21-inch monitor on up for app quadrants, otherwise can't see much or work fiddly, unless they’re apps for data display such as weather, etc.

Fair enough, but it all should be the same code and features (except Enterprise edition), although we know upgrades tend to be buggier. So far, so good for mine, though. I had no problems upgrading from 8 to 8.1 via the Store also. If I ran into problems, scannow fixed, uninstall/reinstall, or program repair took care of it. Actually would like to see more of program repairs such as Office has.

I upgraded to build 9860 from 9814 via the Modern PC Settings (which is a switch from the Store) without a hitch. Dual boot with 8.1 on different partitions of a spinner. Download took roughly 20 minutes of which I could still use the system. Install about an hour, but I have a lot of services to sync and Store apps to install.

Overall it looks as though it is satisfying the “desktoppers”, but not quite there yet for us “Modern users”.

Did anyone notice this? > https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html

BTW, I see font types have changed in places too.

I agree, it should be the same code and features, but does it work the same for everyone ...
Upgrade seems to work for you, but not everyone ... some have to clean install with the 9860 ISO.
I don't want to start a controversy about this, I was just asking/commenting on what little I know.

I read posts like this, and now I wonder .... when someone has an issue is it an upgrade problem, and a clean install "fixes it" ... ?

Thanks for the tutorial Kari! I was having problems with the upgrade, but after creating the .ISO and burning a DVD I was able to do a clean install and everything seems to be working well.

If you want to remove entries from that list you'll have to try this method:

Tidy Up the Start Menu or Screen - Edwin000's library

(NOTE: You won't be able to invoke an instance of a Modern App when hidden)

No controversy whatsoever here either. Why upgrades falter has many explanations, but really never a simple one. I see many users are not liking the update approach MS has exercised with this edition as well as 8.1, but many are not willing, nor will they try a new way. Just saying. Not saying it's right or wrong. I'm simply reporting that the upgrades are working for me. Many may be wondering how that can be with such an old machine. All I can say is that I try to maintain all the MS maintenance and other software as much as possible. Want to use different AVs, browsers, office suites, defrags, etc., have at it, but be willing to face the consequences.

I've thought hard on this. How about trying scannow and other advanced tools to attempt to fix it before going through the time and effort of ISO? MS won't know how to fix upgrades unless they have data to do so, so ISOs are not helping in that respect. On the other hand, perhaps they are necessary in some cases, especially in enterprise.

That looks like my comment and yes, I didn't have much luck with updating from Enterprise 9841 to Enterprise 9860. Don't know why, as I've never had problems with previous upgrades, like from 8.0 to 8.1. The process is automated, so I'm not sure how it could be user error. I didn't try to fix the problems, but opted to create an .ISO of 9860 and do a clean install. So far 9860 is running very nicely.
