Consumer preview -> Nah, that's just what MS used to refer to pre-releases. Changing the word Consumer to Tech makes us feel 'mo impotent' - actually the TP is an earlier rls and has a faster rls schedule.

Booting to the Start Screen is what got MS in trouble with Win8 - I don't want to return to the "I want my maypo...er start menu" days. In seriousness, MS is working on figuring out the device and setting the options (desktop v Touchscreen Modern). That is a good step, but there are users who want a hybrid solution - humans are still smarter than machines - let us decide.

LOL! Perhaps I am taking it too seriously at this point in time. I have a feeling this is going to be a role reversal of 7F members that joined 8F that complained about 8 forcing them to use the new Modern UI. Now I get to complain in 10F that I'm being forced to use the desktop.

All in all I'm reminded that "As in war, the victor only seems to win".

Speaking of rls (assuming that's jargon for releases) > After doing some poking around I found this via PC settings. What's with this "Choose how fast you'd like to get preview builds?" Well, I set it to high. I want the next build ASAP. Do they have some kind of bug-o-meter and only release builds with a certain amount of bugs?

While I'm here > The Start Menu is liken to me of people that collect antiques > Most buy them to have, but don't use them.

Yes rls=release
Fast / Slow - sort of a big-o-meter, but the other way around. You want more bugs, get on the fast track, fewer bugs, take the slow track.

I stayed on the slow track, they're not paying me enough to do more extensive testing.

Maybe MS will offer insider's a low price on the RTM - I'd buy a few licenses if they allowed that.

This really shouldn't be that hard for MS - make the GUI a choice at install time and allow the user to configure the system the way the prefer. Some technical restrictions will undoubtedly contrain some customization. The issue really revolves around the desktop - tablet and phone users don't care if there's a start menu or how the Modern apps work on the desktop - there is no desktop for them.

I prefer the desktop and dabble on the modern side.
I think the Start Screen is more valuable than the Start Menu.
I don't care if Modern apps work in desktop Windows
For the most part the Modern and Desktop GUI's and apps are redundant.
I have no use for live tiles
Search was 'different' in Win7 ... search is broken in Win10

VMWare Player is 6.04. That's as up to date as there is unless a new one came out today.

Edit: Again, I don't get the point of "evaluating" if problems are wished away. Let's just have press releases instead then.

You can use install windows 10 on a separate partition by itself. If you are worried about loosing data. I been have been using Macrium image backup to usb hard drive. Tip use Macrium from windows 7. If you are using a preinstalled system, the Oem's usually have utilities to create restore cd/dvds. Also, make sure you create a Macrium USB flash drive boot disk do this from windows 7. Remember, when restoring make sure you boot from the USB flash drive, not the usb hard drive.

If I understand the way VM works, it is not the correct way to test out windows 10 preview but I could be wrong. Just my opinion.
