Hi there. Ok on activation, but your OP is confusing. You stated...

....but your winver result shows build 10565, not 10240. Therefore which is it?

Do you sign into 10 with a MS account or local account? If one or the other, which account did you perform the winver command in?

Here's mine signing in with my MS account. It shows my MS account as "Registered to:"

So sorry for all the confusion. Perhaps I shouldn't have given a background of what versions I had. I had 10240, upgraded to 10547 but had to re-install 10240, now I'm on 10565 but it's not registered to me in this version(technically it's not showing me under 'registered to:'). I always sign in with a Microsoft account, it was exactly like yours with the @live email address. But now as I've stated above, it's registered to Microsoft, I am currently signed with same credentials as when I signed in for the very first time on 10240 - when it was registered to me.

Hmm. Seems strange that obviously you lost registration of license ownership tied to your MS account, which is your identity of so far as the OS license goes.

Does your system have "Digital entitlement"?

Press WinKey/I > Press Tab key to focus on search box > Type activation > Activation should show as 1st choice > Press Enter.

Please post a screenshot of that?

Maybe Bill Gates slips into your house at night and uses your computer.

Your license has nothing at all to do with your MS account.

What winver shows is whatever was the account name entered when you clean installed or upgraded. For example I just clean installed 10565 and used a local account and it is licensed to "Halasz" as that is the name of the local account I chose.

MS account gives you access to updates through the insider program and that is all.

Licensing is completely separate and based on your entitlement either through the device or key.

You can (and I just did) install a preview build as a local account and it will activate if you have a key (or your device is already registered). You don't need a MS account at all for that.

Ok, halasz. Thanks for the teach and heads up on that. :) I was confusing that with Trusted Devices in my MS account.

Any ideas on the OP's problem?

'This product is licensed to: Microsoft Microsoft'-capture.png @HippsieGypsie Mine's the exact same as yours. @halasz Does this mean I am a registered owner of my copy of Windows? And the 'registered to:' is more of a placeholder. All I did was when I had 10240 the second time round, my name was registered. Then I installed/upgraded to 10565 with the ISO(setup.exe), it's most likely a bug because of the method I used, but it still is bugging me.

Hi there. I should think that it is a placeholder not being correctly changed by a proper string value. And more strange is that Microsoft is placed twice. As long as Digital Entitlement is shown in your Settings I wouldn't worry too much about it. It will probably be corrected during next build install.

There may be a value in the Registry that could be corrected, but be careful going that route.

Hopefully someone can crack this. Good luck to you, malim.

Mine shows "Windows User". I have stayed on Insider since the beginning. Have never done reinstall or clean install. I also log in with my MS account.

Looks like it is stored here in the RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization keys.

How to Change the Registered PC Owner in Any Version of Windows

You could change it, or leave it, as you wish - it is only some text - as HG says I wouldn't worry about it :)

Now you mention it mine used to say "Windows User" during some earlier insider builds but I've clean installed so it has got overwritten with my name at some point.
