Just one thing to keep in mind. I had done all of the updates to WIn8.1 so it was all up to date when I upgraded to WIn10.
last thing, did you upgrade to win 10 via windows updates
or by downloading the ISO win 10 build 102040 ( or other ?? )

I got an ISO and did the upgrade from a mounted version of that and the ISO was on my data HDD when I did it. Right now you can't use windows update to upgrade WIn8.1 to Win10.

The first upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to the Preview is done via the Windows Insiders Page, if your doing it online. That's what's shutdown at the moment. You can sign up you just can't install the Preview from there. If your already running the preview, new builds come via Windows update. If you wait till the 29th to upgrade to Window 10 it will likely come via Windows Update.

Oh OK, I got exited too early. I could do the same Friday morning my time but Friday afternoon no longer.
Complete wipe of all internal disks. Was activated after initial restart.

I just finished re-building my PC with a new Gigabyte motherboard 2 nights ago and I can't activate the 10166 that I clean installed on it. But I tried what Edwin did when the TH1 10240 update popped-up (30 mins ago) and skipped typing in the Key and it finished up as activated...

Again, I am upgrading a non-activated 10166 to 10240 (in-progress). I will skip typing the key again and see if it will come out as ACTIVATED.

I'll be back.... :)
EDIT:
Another success!

So you are still able to activate an full install! I have windows 10240 on a drive but want to install a clean install. I can still do that then? I made an ISO of 10240 when I first installed it.

@magilla ,No. Install 10166 again and upgrade online to 10240 and skip typing in the key for 10240.

Badrobot, I did clean installs of the ISO I previously made from the 10240 ESD today. They each activated. I entered the product code for 10240 as per the opening post (Brink's) in this thread.
