No use for proper Windows apps.
About app usage. You can install various apps without logging into the microsoft store. However you must have downloaded the application and then you will have to install using the cmd ( powershell ) commands. There are also unofficial application installers.

App can be converted to Appx. Why? Because Windows Appx is really related to Android. You might as well install Android Subsystem ( I advise to backup your OS drive because installing it might not work based on your windows version ). Not all applications will work directly but more or less the same system in use.

The only draw-back if the version of the Appx have been updated to whatever system ( meaning you would have to manually roll it back, for which there is currently nothing to make those changes. It is literally the same with making an recent release of any android apk work for an earlier version of android. Because in the code it makes a bunch of checks for the android version.

Simular to the death clock of latest AIR ( which I find stupid and dumbfounding ). Which you can edit ( update ) to be used on latest version of AIR ( but why would you? ).

You could update to the latest Windows ( or try whichever version of windows ) until the appx works. ( out the box rule ).

You could also just use the Windows Store app ( it will dumbgrade it ( upgrade it ) and just get whichever application on your windows install within the VM. It is like using Windows Update to install drivers but more garbage involved.

This is currently something I have been looking into. One base OS to rule them all. Currently OSX ( MacOS ) model via the M4 seems to be the ideal current solution, in terms of an end-it-all scenario. However could be done with Linux and Windows as a base ( ground / foundation ). Hi folks

If you want to run Linux on Windows -- either install a VM or depending on what you want the Linux system to do install the WSL on Windows. Some Linux GUI programs can run directly from the WSL without needing any extra software -- a full desktop can be got in some instances but it's a lot of trouble -- and currently there's no Bridged mode networking available which means that your Linux WSL machine can't be reached by any other device / machine on your LAN.

Just go with a VM currently -- VM's are very (or can be) efficient these days especially decently installed Linux systems.
HYPER-V works fine if you can put up with a few limitations and want to stick to bog standard Windows software. Free 3rd party software such as VMWare player and Oracle's Virtual Box also are reasonable choices.

Running WINE on Linux isn't worth the candle these days -- if you are using a Linux Host then install Windows as a VM -- VmWare vmplayer, Virtual Box and KVM/QEMU are all Free and install easy enough on Linux Hosts and simple to create running VM's on.

Ive never had problems installing any version of Windows as a VM on a Linux Host -- and these days on a Windows Host especially with current versions of W10 / W11 as a host never had any problems installing all sorts of Linux distros as VM's either.

As far as these ...sfx releases are concerned -- I don't suppose it will be too long before some greasy mit grasping Lawyers get their hands full of truckloads of cash by sidling up to Microsoft.

Remember the old adage "If it looks like a Duck ......." etc. If you want Windows - just use it and have done with it. I can't see why anybody if they are that desperate to have a basic Windows GUI desktop to have Linux as their main desktop OS. Doesn't make sense to me -- having Windows as a VM is fine but if you use Linux it's not meant to be a "Windows" system.

    Cheers

I did finely made a decision on how to go about the OPS on my Lenovo M91 Small case. I kept Win 10 on one HDD and installed Linux Ubuntu on another small laptop HDD used DVD power and Sata connection and attached it to the another HDD and it fits perfectly ,then installed Grub boot manager and now i can boot either one . I find 24.04.2 LTS to be very good and i do almost everything i do in Win.

🤣 install an OS that looks like Windows and then go through hoops and loops to run uwp apps and still not be able to run major win32 apps (MS Office, Adobe etc).

    Here's an idea - install Windows 😂.
