Windows 11 and my lack of a TPM.

    Hello,
My late 2013 Samsung All-in-one DP700A3D-A01US does not have a TPM and I have no clue if my PC supports adding a TPM in. I have tried looking up many things and I cannot find out if my PC even supports one at all, TPM 1.2 or TPM 2.0. I am concerned about my ability to run Windows 11 or the Insider Preview builds this year when it comes out. Can anyone help me figure out if I can add a TPM to this PC.

    OS Version 10.0.21390/DEV Build 21390
    CPU: Intel Core i5-3470T
    BIOS/UEFI Version: American Megatrends Inc. P10KMS.076.140213.XJ, 2/13/2014
Intel ME Version: 8.1, Build 1336, Hot Fix 20

Attached is a zipped copy of my Computer specs from HWinfo.

Hi, that won't be the only issue.
    2 tools to check compatibility:
PC Health Check - Windows 11
    – may not (yet) be completely reliable.
You could try this tool... it will tell you "why" you are failing...

3rd Party tool to check for Win 11 compatibility - GitHub | Windows 11 Forum

    Specifications:
    Introducing Windows 11
Find Windows 11 specs, features, and computer requirements
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...specifications

    Full specification:
    https://download.microsoft.com/downl...ndows%2011.pdf

    Graphics:
Only machines after about 2015 can support Direct X 12 graphics.
Try dxdiag.exe on yours e.g. from a Run box

    CPU:
You can check to see if your CPU is in this list:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...tel-processors

    TPM
Check whether you have TPM 2 and if it’s enabled: run
    tpm.msc
    from e.g. a run command.

I have never thought of all of this. I only assumed it was the TPM, because my processor technically would support it because it has two cores and is at 1 GHz or higher. My iGPU supports DirectX 12 but is not a WDDM 2.0 driver. And on the 24 when I tried this tool it said I was incompatible because I had no TPM, and now today it says it is the processor. At least I have the ability to test the Insider Builds of Windows 11. I hope I can find a replacement for this PC before Windows 11 Releases.

    Hi there
Funny that the 3rd party app is far better than Ms's one one - in fact the Ms one is really bonkers anyway -- I'm actually RUNNING W11 (the leaked build) and the Ms app says "This PC can't run W11 !!!!!!!"

So don't believe necessarily the Microsoft tool.

The 3rd party tool shows that the CPU has a query -- probably because its not in the database of supported CPU's otherwise the laptop passes all the tests

That's the way I would do it in the first place.

See the work-arounds at the bottom of the 1st post, here...

That’s what I would do if I can’t upgrade via windows update. Should I just do a in place upgrade regardless if I can update via windows update or not?

We won't really know for sure till we actually GET the ready for prime time version of Windows 10.
IF the requirements stay the same...then the ONLY way it will work for you is via one of the work-arounds mentioned.

I have all the requirements necessary, and I still intend to do an In-Place Upgrade.

Btw, there's a newer version of the Github tool than the one you're using.
And wait till it finishes. Namely the Direct X test.

If I ever see Windows 11 again, it will be in 2025. What a PITA. I kept losing the network, Defender would not stay on, and Storage sense did not remove windows.old. Firefox would not start. It also had issues trying to use Right Clivk.
