    Stuck at 10074 - did I wait too long?

    One of my VMs is at 10074 and seems not to want to update. Last week I looked into this and saw that I needed to log in using my Microsoft login. I did that and it seems not to matter. My other VM upgraded to 10240 before July 29th.

    I tried the fix I found at [Forum FAQ]How to upgrade to Windows 10 build 10240 if Windows Update is unavailable and it did not work. When I went into Advanced Options after changing the registry entry and trying to update it had an entry at the bottom of the Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options that says "The selected branch is not set to receive preview builds" and gives me the option to switch back to fbl_impressive. (I still get the Definitions Updates for Windows Defender.) winver tells me this update expires at 10/1/2015.

    Did I wait too long and miss the boat?

    Thanks!

    I wonder if you were to download the ISO from MS TechBench, mount it, and run setup.exe from within your W10 OS, if it would upgrade that way?

    There is a registry fix to enable 10240 to upgrade from Windows update for early builds such as 10074.
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability]
    "EnablePreviewBuilds"=dword:00000002
    "Ring"="WIS"
    "BranchName"="TH1"
    "UserPreferredBranchName"="TH1"
    "RingBackup"="Disabled"
    "ThresholdRiskLevel"="low"
    "AdminFlowsValidateFlightSettingsHr"=dword:00000000
    copy the code to notepad, select save as, save as type: All files, and save as TH1.reg or use the attachment provided.
    open the file and follow the instructions to merge the registration details into the registry.
    Then go to settings and updates, check for updates and
    TH1 Professional 10240 release preview should start to download and install.

    I have just done this and after an uneventful upgrade, the 10240 Professional was running fine and activated. The 10074 install that was upgraded had not been activated, and had the install default product key of NKJFK-GPHP7-G8C3J-P6JXR-HQRJR.

    Otherwise upgrade using the Iso of the RTM version using Media Creator Tool: Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums

    Thank you for the suggestions. I had tried the registry modification previously and it did not work. I upgraded to 10240 via the ISO image and that worked. I had thought about trying that but was reluctant to do so without confirmation here.

    Thanks!
