My laptop is currently running the latest build on Windows Insider Dev mode.
I want to stop getting preview builds and do a clean install without losing my app, files and settings.
When running the Windows 10 Setup, all the options are greyed out apart from "Nothing" where I will lose everything
Any ideas?
A "clean install" is just that, cleans everything off so be sure to have a copy of your data, anything that exists nowhere else and any programs such as on disc or downloaded that you don't want to lose, on/in a different place/drive.
Go to Settings, Update and Security and the bottom of the left panel:

There are settings in Update & Security to delay getting updates but the very premise of Insider Preview is for trying as new changes come out and reporting of problems. The warning when joining the IP, that probably still exists [haven't looked for it since joining IP when first available], was not to use it on an only/production machine, no guarantee there wouldn't be problems so I've had it on a couple of older computers, only hardware problem was no suitable drivers for the onboard Intel video adapter so used an add-in card..
Yes you can stop getting insider updates but this will stop your computer from getting any updates. Go to Services and stop all windows update services. You can leave the Insider Program from within the windows settings Insider program menu but you only have 2 options, to either stop updates but that's a dumb option cause your PC will keep updating until the next major update then your PC will automatically leave the program or you can Clean install but if you stop the Windows Update services you'll just stay on the windows version you have without updates until you decide to either update down the road or Clean install. Those unfortunately are the only options.
Hi, I'm also on a dev build and I switched my channel to Beta and turned on "Stop getting preview builds when the next version of Windows releases" but I'm assuming I have to wait until beta catches up to dev or the next major release comes out. Problem is that according to version history beta is currently on build 19042.804 yet 19536 came out in the fast ring on December 16, 2019. Does this mean I won't be getting a beta or major release anytime soon, or am I just completely misunderstanding the version numbering system?I would really like to not have to do a clean install.
There is no direct relationship between Dev builds and public RTM builds, or for that matter, even with Beta and Release Preview. I know, all confusing as heck. If that is your main computer, and you have Dev build on it (old Fast Ring), you are faced with a clean install to get back to RTM. That is the bottom line. If you no longer want to receive Insider preview builds, you'll have to unenroll your device. If you don't leave the program though, you will continue to receive emails. To unenroll your device:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds to see your options.
- If you're in the Beta Channel or the Release Preview Channel, you can flip the switch to stop stop getting preview builds on your device when the next major release of Windows 10 launches to the public.
- If you're in the Dev Channel or you'd like to stop getting preview builds immediately, you should use these instructions to complete a clean installation of Windows 10.

You can't really do this, as this would be a downgrade. Just set it to release preview or beta, those are fairly stable and less frequently updated compared to the dev ring and then tick the opt out checkbox just below. These are at the windows insider settings in pc settings. No need to reinstall, you will slowly, over the next two months, be rolled out of insider, back onto a beta or a retail build.Hello,

If you still want a reinstall then wipe it clean as suggested.
