    Question about dev channel

I'm setting up dev channel in virtual machine aimed at testing software before new OS release.

I understand I'll be getting unstable builds but my concern is whether my tests would make any sense for the upcoming OS release.

My misunderstanding is this: In dev channel, a minor update to OS may bring one change that ie. affects me, but already next minor update may also change behavior of previous OS update which means I would need rewrite what I already did to my own code. (problem is only how often could that happen)

On the other side I think sticking with beta channel is more productive because changes introduced in OS are less likely (or unlikely) to be again modified in comparison with dev channel, meaning lower chance for me to test or write one and same thing again.

So basically I'm looking for a channel that gives at least some guarantee that minor (not major) OS build number increments won't alter the meaning of previous version increments too often.

I don't know if this makes sense but basically I want to avoid introducing changes to my code that I would need to often rewrite over and over again. (a few times is OK, but doing this too often is a waste of time for me)

Which channel do you recommend for me?

Dev channel is what the Fast Ring was and BETA channel was the Slow Ring. I'd think staying with the BETA would be better for program testing, doesn't appear [reading forums] to change as much as the DEV, may be more stable. I have 2 Desktops on the DEV, started with the Fast Ring some time ago.

Thanks that's exactly what I wanted to hear.

I just needed second opinion because I never used beta Windows.

Btw. you signature is so true

@zebal, the Release Preview channel is one step away from RTM, and one step more stable than Beta (old Slow ring). The progression of changes (in general) is Fast>Beta>RP>RTM. Remember, of course, that MS has detached Fast channel from any particular build or changes that may make it to the final public release. Fast has become more and more of a digital playground.

Summary.... Beta is fine for your intentions, and RP (Release Preview) is one step safer.

    Cheers.....

    Thank you for confirmation @f14tomcat

I've already read some of the information you say, and one additional reason why beta seems to be preferred is that we can switch to other channels or RTM easily, while dev channel requires OS reinstall.
