Cannot open Settings, Action Centre or any Windows system tray apps!

    Build 19613 x64

This update has been a nightmare for me!!

First up I lost all of my Desktop apps then I got a message that I was logged in via a temporary profile! So I rebooted and logged in OK and all of my Desktop apps were back.

But then I cannot open Settings, Action Centre or any Windows system tray apps eg no volume control, no network settings, etc!!! If I click on Settings in the Start Menu I keep geting Control Panel!!

    Grrrrrrr!!!!

    Any help PLEASE???

    Thanks.

Hi, if anyone with this Insider build is familiar with this I'm sure they will help you. I looked at this before, then realised that is what your build is, so backed off. Being an Insider build, as you know you take risks.

As to your update- forum rules disallow thread bumping...sorry.

    Thanks for replying dalchina

Yes mate, of course I realize that with insider builds that "you take risks" but this is basically a "help" forum and this is posted in the "Windows Insider" sub-forum so where else can I find anyone who can... and hopefully will... help me please?

Oh and sorry, in my frustration of trying to sort out this build I didn't realize that I was "bumping".

BTW I've done 4 repair installs including a UK English one the last time but it's still stuffed!!

Also BTW I could actually add to my original post by asking if anyone has experienced the problems that I'm having with ANY Windows 10 Build i.e. not necessarily an Insider Build.

    Regards.

Create a system image backup that you can restore then try:

    Account Profile Fixer

Note: I don't use any insider builds but have used this software twice on two different W10 machines to fix profile issues.

    Don't use without a backup.

You might also need to copy back %appdata% so make sure you have backup.

Hello Oz, I'm having the same issue, searching for a solution brought me here. Although not all of the tray icons are none responsive, the main culprit seems to be the volume icon, not only doesn't it work but if you click on it enough times it interferes with explorer somehow and then slowly the system seems like its falling apart.

I usually just do the release previews but this one clearly has issues. I just got into the slow ring now and got an immediate update, my system seems to be a bit more stable now but the volume icon still remains a mystery.

Note windows media player also seems to be affected on my system.

I reported it to feedback, you should too so they know there is clearly something up either with the builds or the delivery.

I've done all the recommended sfc scannnows and dism's and they all come up with no problems, IF you try this tool that resets your account and it works please let us know.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions Callender

I'll give that a try and report back.

    Thnaks for your reply RobCom

When you say "if try this tool" are you referring to the Account Profile Fixer that Callender suggested??

If the problem is with the build then that tool probably won't help. I suggested it because of possible issues with your profile.

Yes, I have never had to create another profile, but if I have to I would like to keep everything as close to the way it is as possible.

I was wondering more about the final result than weather it works or not, I'm sure it works if Callender said he used it.

I see what you mean there, as that's yet to be determined, many over in the Insider forums don't seem to all be having the same issue, although some do have "similar" and some have other issues that are even worse.

BUT, from all my searches on Bing it appears that a corrupt profile can cause all of these types of issues, as well as, a corrupt or partially failed install.

I have downloaded a copy of version 1904 .iso and I've mounted/burned it to a flash drive, (it's bigger then a dvd will hold) and I MAY try running an in place upgrade/repair if things start to get worse.

IF I manage to figure this out, I will let you know Oz!

As far as I am aware you can't do an upgrage/repair with an earlier version. If you could then I would definitely be going back to an earlier version.

One thing that I maybe should have pointed out is that I have tried several times to run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth but every time it stops at 62.3% and it just sits there with the blinking cursor!! I even tried pointing DISM to the mounted ISO file to use that install.wim but the same thing happens!! Very frustrating!!

Perhaps if someone can help me get passed that problem then DISM might fix my initial problem.
