Keyboard/Mouse inactive at Windows Login after 2004 update

Thursday night I saw that the 2004 update was showing in my Windows Update, so I decided to give it a go. The update proceeded fine, but since it was late when I started. I went to bed while it was doing the last few restarts. The next morning I went to my computer and found that it would not turn the monitor back on when I moved my mouse or tried typing. I restarted the computer, and it started up as expected, but when it reached the login screen for Windows neither the keyboard not the mouse were active. I have tried a different USB keyboard and it is the same. I am presently looking for a PS/2 keyboard to see if that has the same problems.

    Any ideas?

Sorry you have waited a few days for a reply, the site is very busy.
Before I post suggestions and indeed questions to you. Is the issue solved please.
If it is not, did you get as far as trying PS2 connection and if so did it work please, I presume, if you did try such, you will report it did work.

In case it is not solved - Connect PS2 mouse rather than wireless mouse if possible
Use on screen keyboard at log in screen - click Ease of Access icon (part circle two arrows)
    use on screen keyboard

This is only to get you in, so that you can then commence possible troubleshooting
If the keyboard is NOT connected with the two usb leads, for your board, as it is USB2 ports - try that
From the Corsair site for your keyboard
    For USB 3.0:
Use one connector (the one with the keyboard icon) when connecting via USB 3.0
    Connecting via USB 2.0
Use both connectors when using USB 2.0. Plug in the connector with the two arrows icon first, and the connector with the keyboard icon second.

It turned out that we did not have the PS/2 keyboard or mouse like that I thought. The ones we had ended up being broken, the others apparently were either given away or loaned out & not returned. I asked around but no one nearby had one, so I didn't get a chance to test that possibility.

As such, Wednesday night I started backing up my personal data on my c drive to my d drive and downloading the ISO for 2004. Then did a clean install Thursday morning. There were no issues after that.

So the cause and solution are still TBD, just not by me. My present theories are that something in the Windows Update method might be causing drivers or something to be corrupted and alternatively that the update had actually hung up and wasn't complete when I restarted it the original following morning but it completed anyway but was missing whatever would make the keyboard reactivate.

Also, yeah my keyboard is weird. I did try having both plugged in before the clean install, but it didn't change anything. It has always been a weird time with this keyboard. I have had times when it won't work with both plugged in and other times when it only works when they are both in.

I guess I will wait, and see if this repeats at the next update, or if anyone else runs into similar problems.

Cheers. Pleased you sorted it, even if only by the clean install
For your information in case you are not aware, you could have
    possibly
used the repair install which is in effect a re-install of windows, but keeps more or less everything as is.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Of course I say possibly because that is done from within Windows by mounting the ISO and then clicking setup.
So you would still have used the onscreen keyboard, but would have required the mouse. therefore I suggest you may consider a usb mouse, not your present wireless on and then one of these

as a good spare for such use.

Stay safe in the current crisis.
