Thing is though, I tried using a P2V Converter so I could use Windows 10X on VMware, with UEFI boot. It didn’t boot. I also went through Google for some research. As it stands, you can’t use Windows 10X on VMware. This will be an issue for those working with VMware Workstation Pro 15.5.2 and under as it cannot run on Hyper-V hosts (only 15.5.5 and over can do that)
YOu would have to enable Windows Hypervisor Platform in windows features, enabling Hyper-V itself is not enough to allow VMware to use it. Also you need to update VMware to the latest version.
Then again, I'm not sure if 10X is even capable of running on VMWare. VMware is a 3rd-party software, and it emulates a different hardware to the VM than Hyper-V does. FOr instance, the emulated graphics card is very different. Also the EFI implementation is different. As 10X is an unfinished OS, it's quite possible it won't run that way. But thanks for trying
Yeah, but there's a problem with upgrading for some users. I, for instance, was looking to upgrade from 15.5.2 to 15.5.5 for the Hyper-V compatibility. The issue wasn't the Hypervisor Platform, as that's already installed through the VMware installer or through user prompt on Optional Features, but it was something called XSAVE which my processor doesn't support (whatever it is) plus I think Intel EPT (I think that's what it's called) may not be supported by your CPU when using a few guest OSes.
Plus, the only reason why I tried UEFI for 10X is because it's mainly that running on most PCs, but by then I realized that it would only run on bare metal (Hyper-V), so yeah... Now I know.
I only heard of this a short time ago, not sure why anyone would be excited for it, as it seems a very restricted OS.
I question the OneDrive implementation. I Do Not use Onedrive..Ever. So how does forcing someone to use it seem positive? I guess once it comes out I wont be using it. At that point ill stick with an older build until it expires and then figure it out after that..lol
Personally, I'm not liking where this is going with the decisions made for this OS, and if things don't start changing and heading the right way I won't see myself using it within the near future. Win32 usage is disabled by default and I heard something about running tasks in the background no longer being a thing, and you can't access the C: drive either from the looks of it. I think this is all to do with Microsoft keeping Windows 10X as a lightweight operating system, but I'm not sure if this is the best option to go for.
Read up on 10X a little bit and it sounds like they want to move everything to a cloud and they are disabling support for x86 PCs. Since they are renting Office now, it sounds like they may be thinking about renting all their software, question is boiling down to if they are going to start renting Windows and you have to pay to keep you PC running. I do know one thing for a fact, I will not be using a cloud to store my files - MAC is starting to come into view.
Windows 10X has been canceled by Microsoft.
