Active thumbnail previews for video players in taskbar no longer work!

It seems something changed in Windows insider Preview builds 20H1 and 20H2 which does not allow you to see active video thumbnail previews in the bottom taskbar with WIndows Media Player or other players like Potplayer and VLC player when minimized!

In Potplayer If you enable Direct3d 11 video renderer it allows you to see an active video preview on the taskbar thumbnail preview when Potplayer is minimized.

For testing I installed the latest 20H1 only to learn you can no longer see an active video preview for a playing video theat is minimized when hovering on the thumbnail in the taskbar. And same issue remains in 20H2 too.

Any ideas what could have changed in Windows 10 latest insider preview builds to cause this?

P.S. I have no issues with current version "1909 18363.592"

Could some of you guys that are running 20H1 or 20H2 see if you are also having this same issue with any of the 3 media players above?

I hope Microsoft will fix this!

    Thanks :)

I'm still on 1903 but I get taskbar thumbnail video previews anyway. No need to enable Direct3D. I just use Madshi and still get those previews but don't find them useful.

Can you actually see the video moving in the thumbnail though?

Or is it just a frozen image?

    This is so strange then.

I have 4 computers and on all 4 of them I can not see the video moving in the taskbar thumbnail with any media players minimized such as WMP, Potplayer and VLC Player. All I see is the last image shown before I minimized the player to the taskbar.

If I however I go back to 19H2 or early releases I have no such issue.

The issue started for me with 20H1 and 20H2 insider builds.

With Potplayer I do have to enable Direct3D 11 in order to see video playing thumbnails with it minimized to the taskbar.

I guess with Madshi you don't need to.

Check your settings in system properties, performance tab Show thumbnails instead of icons

Yep I have all of them checked.

I do get the thumbnails they just are not moving even though the video is playing.

Don't get me wrong I know this is not exactly a huge deal.

I just always liked to be able to have a video minimized to the taskbar and be able to move my mouse courser over it and seeing the video playing in the little thumbnail preview :)

Been able to do this for years until now.

Looks like at least for me that is no more worth the lats windows builds

O well thanks for trying to help.
