Insider build 18990.1 cannot mount external HDD anymore

Could it really be that my computer has a flaw or that this specific Orico adapter is incompatible with latest Windows 10 insider? I have ordered a new adapter (they are pretty cheap anyway...). Will report back to you guys on Wednesday I guess.

EDIT: so I have got this very strange work-around. If I connect my external HDD through the Microsoft Display Dock to my PC then it works just fine.
Not sure if my ports at the back of the PC are USB 3.0 too. Maybe that is the issue...

One other thing, the BIOS usually has built-in support for the USB 2 ports but needs drivers loaded when the OS/Operating Systems load for the USB 3 ports. Newer machines may have ports that accommodate both types.

I think you are on a really good hunch with that USB 3.0 issue thing. So I checked the BIOS as you recommended and I found this Intel xHCI setting inside the USB stuff. This is how my USB ports are configured with xHCI enabled:



After turning xHCI off all the enhanced and the eXtensible is gone. But now my external HDD is working like a charm! Thank you very much for helping me work-around this issue to a human-friendly approach!
After consulting the manufacturers website I realized all ports are USB 3.0.

But now I am sure that the USB 3.0 speed of my external drive is gone. Kind of a bummer for speed of work but I will live with it for as long as this issue persists.

I guess my issue is solved because I can work using my external again. Just wondering if there is a way to fix USB 3.0 for my Windows 10 insider?

EDIT: has anyone else tried USB 3.0 external drives on latest Windows 10 insider builds?

Hey guys, so my HDD case from CSL got shipped today. So I swapped my PC back to USB 3.0 mode by enabling Intel xHCI. The amazing thing is that the CSL HDD case works whereas the Orico ones still does not! I have no idea how this hardware controller could break between insider builds but it says a lot about hardware controller quality imo.

Thank you very much once again to Berton and Brink for assisting me in debunking. To create more compatibility for lower quality USB 3.0 hardware one should switch to USB 2.0 mode. But for maximum performance you should really buy better stuff
