How do you enable the updated search ?
I still have the old backup of 18912 with the missing search box, but when I do new upgrades to latest build 18922 from a good build I just see the old search without the updated feature ?
Do you need the skip ahead to get the new search ?..

Hi Steven,
I tried a few more things.
1) As I said earlier if I upgrade a good build 18362.175 to 18922.1000, I just see the old search box and no drop downs with suggestions.
2) If I upgrade from the build 18912 (which had the missing search box) to 18922 the search box is still missing and the upgrade is not fixing it.
3) On the same failing build upgraded to 18922 if I add a new user then the file explorer shows the new updated search with the drop down suggestions.
In this case it looks like the bug was corrected, but it does not fix the bug for user that has the missing search box.
Still there is no explanation on latest build 18922 on how to switch from the old search to the new one with the suggestions drop down....
If it was my choice I would get rid of the stupid suggestions all together.
This is still an issue for me in the latest insider build,18922. However, it does not affect explorer on a seperate user account on the same laptop.
Under Known Issues for this build, Microsoft states:
"We’re investigating an issue where some users are reporting that File Explorer search is rendering in an unexpectedly small area and clicking it results in a crash."
Just a question about search suggestions not appearing.
Is Indexing and search setup correctly? It was my understanding (and probably wrong)
That suggestions works off disk indexing, and ntfs table.
Attachment 238688
some have the bar missing which is being investigated as reported in the last build
....my issue is that I do not see search tools... check attachment
and yes indexing has to be on for results...
Steven,
If I do a clean fresh install on build 18922.1000, the new search experience with the dropdown suggestion is not enabled, the search looks like the old standard that already existed in windows 10 1903. Indexing is on.
This new search was introduced with buil 18894, but MS never explained how it gets enabled.
I still have a backup of 18912 which had the new search, but that had the bug and the missing search box on one user ID.
Upgrading that to 18922 does not fix the bug and a fresh install of 18922 does not have the new search experience.
From what I can see, MS pulled the new feature out, at least for now...
Your right, I'm sure their going to fix these bugs before letting us have it again
mach2=temp fix but it keeps reverting back to missing. I'm just gonna go back to the prior build and then upgrade again.
