    Create restore point settings

I am on the latest build of win 10 with the insiders preview, and i have a hp desktop so far i have had no problems with the updates . There is just one little bug that is bugging me, I set a restore point on my main drive (just in case something goes wrong) and everytime i update the system the settings change and i no longer have restore set. Is this normal?

    Welcome.

If by update, you mean go to a new build e.g 1809 to 1903, then yes the restore points will be erased, since they wouldn't apply to the new operating system software and system restore is turned off. I really don't understand why they turn it off but they do and it is a normal occurrence. If it is just an update to a build, e.g. 1809 17763.56 to 17763.504, then they are retained/

Thanks for the response. It makes sense to erase the old but i also don't see why they have to turn off system restore

It is random. Sometimes it remembers. In my case, it turned them ON!

I never use it as it is not that reliable. I use incremental or differential image backups using Macrium Reflect - much more reliable.

HOWEVER be warned - if you use image backups to revert, you may lose new data if on drives being restored if you have not backed it up. I always store data on a different drive.

    Hi,

Firstly Image backup must be done on another drives while since you are trying it for test so you can better use Long Path Tool.
