    Windows 10 18362.53 Documents missing.

Did a fresh install, all documents in onedrive, except for Notebook missing. Same on onedrive on the website. All other folders and files intact.

Was one drive set to keep files on your computer or on the net?

Well I tried everything I could to no avail. Tried restoring files with the options yesterday, 1 week and 3 weeks, none worked. Lost 3 years of documents. The good news is that I did not lose anything else. music, pictures and videos are still there. Hope this does not happen to anyone else.

If you contact MS (no idea what method), and explain what happened and what you've done, they may be able to resurrect those documents. MS has backups of backups. I know, for a fact, if you intentionally delete OneDrive files, they hang around in the Cloud Dumpster for 30 days, at least. So you can restore them if a mistake was made. Worth a shot, 3 years of Docs is a lot.

f14tomcat, I was thinking more or less the same. Will give them a call today, and see what happens.

Microsoft could not recover my documents, going forward I will just copy documents to a flash drive.

Weekly backup via Macrium Reflect free or premium to an external hard drive is still the best data safety net there is. File sharing is a good secondary but as you've experienced, not a good primary choice.

Really sorry you lost your data. Still no good explanation for what happened?
