I'm at 1903 18362.267 and I just clicked on the Search icon and typed where is siri. Worked as expected.

No it didn't, what was expected was a 'Let's chat' invitation from Cortana - like this from my post #6.

...to which the answer, should you open 'let's chat' is....

This was something that until recently (post #6 was on 22nd April) could be done in 1903 via the keyboard. Now it is only possible by voice. Something has changed in the last few months apart from the build number of 1903, it's something specific about Cortana herself. And it's not just 1903, it's in the other versions too. The same 'let's chat' response used to be available from from the keyboard in 1809 and 1803 but now no longer is.

Now you may think these little Cortana jokes are trivial (they are, but without an MS account they are the only test I have). What is more important for rplgn in post #9 is that reminders can't now be entered in Cortana from the keyboard either.

Thinking about it, I think I said no to Cortana during the last install/FU. I'll give yes a try on my next install, then I should see the Let's chat invite.

I doubt it. I haven't changed my settings on any of my machines, but Cortana has recently stopped responding to keyboard input on all of them, 1803, 1809 and 1903. She is exclusively 'voice-activated only' these days.

So the divorce is final then. Search and Cortana have gone their separate ways.

I'm very disappointed by the inability to type to Cortana now. Speaking aloud to a personal assistant isn't always desirable in say, a quiet work environment where others may be around, or late at night when others may be sleeping. As a touch typist, I can often type what I want faster than I can say it. I used Cortana a lot to set reminders and timers.

I had noticed Cortana would no longer respond, even on build 1809, when I would type "set timer" followed by a duration I hadn't used before. However, "set timer" followed by a duration I had used before would show up as an option with Cortana icon beside it. I think what happens is Cortana's cached history still shows up, and the reason "Where is Siri" worked for Bree is because she may have entered that before in the past and it's still in Cortana's history.

Since it quit working in 1809, I think part of the divorce occurred server-side.

In v1903, I don't see a microphone symbol in the search box. is that by design?

In 1903 the Search box and Cortana have been separated. Each has its own place next to start on the taskbar. The microphone icon is now in Cortana if you click the button.
