    File names starting with .

Hi, was just reading about 1903 - now the 'May' update (which is hardly propitious in the UK!). I noted that file names can now begin with a .

Any thoughts as to why one would wish to do that?
In the example shown, a string like
    .dsfsjkjdfd
was shown (but maybe the extension was hidden).

Just seems a curious change- any thoughts?

In Linux the dot in front makes it a hidden file, I wonder if Win is doing something similar???

You Can Create and Rename Files That Start with Dot in Windows 10

Linux users must be familiar with .dot files. They are normally hidden in the default view in most file manager apps in Linux, both GUI and console. Dot files usually store configuration for various console and GUI apps, logs, and other data for the current user. Thanks to the WSL feature in Windows 10, that now allows exploring the Linux file system of the installed distros with File Explorer, it is necessary to make File Explorer handle dot files properly.

Is this saying Win10 will now natively read Linux filesystems? So for instance with a dual boot, I can store my profile on a Linux partition and Win10 will natively read it???
