    In an elevated command prompt, type slmgr /xpr

    That will tell you if you are permanently activated or if you have an expiration date.

    I believe MS did say they were allowing pirate users of 7, 8 and testers free upgrades as well. Not 100% positive but I believe I read that somewhere . And if so, count your lucky stars for a freebie to
