    NO 7GB partition!

Just recently, after having my Insider Update fail yet again, I bit the bullet and did a clean-install of bld 18358.

While I was REALLY impressed at how quickly and easily that went, and after that, by how W10 found drivers for ALL my equipment, when I checked the SSD, I was surprised to see no 7GB partition.

I thought I read here that new clean-installs automatically created this partition, supposedly for use in future Upgrades -- but that didn't happen to me.

I did not do any formatting ahead of time, I just booted from the USB stick (which I made using ISO created using the UUPDump script I got from here) and left it to do its own partition creation and formatting.

So, what did I do wrong?

Inquiring minds would like to know "Did you previously have an extra 7gb partition and what was in it" ?

@Mark Phelps is referring to Reserved Storage space, a new feature for 1903. As I understand it it's not actually a new physical partition, rather a virtual drive occupying part of the space on an existing partition.

Reserved storage will be introduced automatically on devices that come with version 1903 pre-installed or those where 1903 was clean installed. You don’t need to set anything up—this process will automatically run in the background.

OK, thanks. I just now checked that and it shows 5.93 Reserved -- so I guess the size varies by PC.

Also, I read the Microsoft Blog on this, and while folks asked about the situation with limited storage devices (most typically, netbooks with 32GB "SSDs") while the blog did indicate that this reservation process would only affect NEW devices and Clean-Installs, it did not indicate whether or not a Clean-Install of 1903 on one of these devices would then attempt to do this reservation process. But … this is a topic for a different thread.
