Windows 10 Build 17763 Next 1809

The most important test is to check the file deletion bug has been eliminated.

To do this takes a bit of effort e.g. in a virtul machine NOT connected to internet:-

1) install 1803
2) shrink C drive and create a D drive (ntfs)
3) Create a folder d:\documents
4) Put a simple text file, FileC.txt in c:\documents
5) Put a simple text file, FileD.txt in D:\Documents
6) Redirect C:\documents to D:\documents from folder properties, selecting NOT to transfer file from C to D.
7) Upgrade either via update or by mounting new 1809 iso and running setup.exe keep everything.
8) After upgrade, check if FileC.txt and FileD.txt still exist.

You can do most of the tests now with the Insider Slow Ring build. But your point is a fair one if one waits for release build.

General public is not likely to visit the Insider Threads. Nor would Non-Insiders. Guess that was my point.

Well, kinda because it's been relegated back to the Insiders (a little belatedly) to test. In order to test the "fix", I had to change my Production partition to Insider. If we'd been allowed to test the release version before they prematurely released it . . .

I'm not having any unusual problems with Windows 10 Version 1809 Build 17763.55 on 2 Desktops and 2 Notebooks, got Build 17763.1 before being pulled and updated to build 17763.55 pretty soon after. I was able to download the .iso files for both x86 and x64 on 10/3 plus create the bootable USB drive.

Then I guess the consensus is Insiders are better qualified to test Post-Release Builds.

Actually, TC, I thought I was throwing out a request for general "what do you do and how" that would include 1809.xxx.

As has been brought out by a couple or three technical journalists, we Insiders "normally" get the "Release Candidate" awhile before it's shipped out to the general public for a final bug check. However, with 1809, Microsoft in their infinite wisdom decided to bypass us. Whoops!

I believe this is my first instance of a final Build going RTM and then being returned as an Insider Preview, so it's rather confusing, to say the least.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'll bet Microsoft never bypasses the Insiders like this again, and that they'll be a little more careful from here . . . maybe, possibly, d'ya think? . . .

Because insiders have most incentive to back up system, backing up "dirty" and unreliable system doesn't help much so to ensure it's worth backing up you need to check it.
There's also better chance for new build to install if system is clean and safe.
