    Windows 10 Media Creaton Tool

Hi, Folks. I hate to bother you but there is no other people to bother that will HELP you I that I have found.
When Windows started the Medial Creation tools, they had a # assigned to them, the best I can remember. I was just reading on "A Whiz Kid" site and he said that all that changed was the decimal in that #. Is he right. If I had an old one, it wouldn't download a "New Version" today, or would it? If it will, there is a lot of people who wasted their time collecting them, and if they won't I will not feel so foolish, because I kept none of them!
Another question I have has driven me crazy! My Wife's Laptop came with 8.1, and I got her updated, over and over and over. It only has one SSD in it, so how can I Wipe it clean? I see no way for a partition tool to do it by CD/DVD because the OS would soon be gone. Someone said that it could be done. Burn SOME-I can't remember which Partition Manager to DVD and it would wipe it clean!
Can THIS be? If so will someone please tell me how and what is to drive it? The OS would go with the Wipe. They have come a long way with aligning the SSD/HHDs, but if they have advanced that far, I need to get to work and catch up! I do have a USB- 2 TB Hard Drive and can't get it into my head, but I just started, on how to put an Operable OS on it then a Partition Manager on it that will let me align it and WIPE IT SPOTLESS!

The media tool is updated when new thing are add so there is no point keeping them. If you download the latest tool let it create a DVD or USB boot your wife's PC from it delete all partitions and it will do a clean install skip if it asks for serial as it will activate from ms

    Welcome to TenForums @harmie,

Edit: welcome back to TenForums, I see this is your second post.

That is a very good question. The answer is Yes and No. It all depends on which version of the MCT you have kept (and I have them all ).

You can tell which one you have by looking at the Details tab of its Properties, the File and Product versions are the same number as the OS build for which it was released.

The very first MCT for the initial release of OS build 10240 came as two separate MCTs, one to make 32-bit media, the other to make 64-bit. If you run them today they will still make the original version 1507, OS build 10240 media.

With 1511 that changed to the one MCT that could make either (or both) 'bits'. The 1511 and 1607 MCTs still make media for their respective OS builds, 10586 and 14393 to this day.

The MCT for 1703, OS build 15063 introduced another change. Starting with this version when you run the MCT it first checks to see if it's the latest version. If it finds a newer one it won't make the media, instead it tells you to download the latest version of the MCT.

When you want to wipe the drive to do a clean install, boot from the install media made by the MCT, either the DVD or USB. When asked, choose to do a Custom Install. The next step will be a screen where you can select and delete each existing partition until the whole drive is Unallocated. Then install Windows into the unallocated space. See this tutorial:
